Linux makes my eyes hurt

I tried installing the Ubuntu Hoary but it wasn't that stable yet, so I decided to stick with SuSE 9.2 until Hoary is officially released. Then I'll try installing it again. YaST is still quite a mystery to me. Synaptic Package Manager that came with Ubuntu was pretty intuitive and easy to use, but YaST isn't. Maybe it's just some one small thing ( Read more... )

Too bad Ubuntu was not for you - if you try it later again remember to configure the extra repositories (which provide firefox 1.0 for example) and see http://ubuntuguide.org/ to get most out of it. Anyway I'm sure SuSE is good choise as well.

What, you can get firefox 1.0 for Warty? I only found these instructions that said you can't install 1.0 without breaking SPM. Maybe I should give it another go. SuSE isn't what I'm looking for. Or rather KDE isn't. It's... ugly.

Yeah, I actually tried to follow the instructions but I wasn't sure about adding the repositories because I think I read somewhere something that contradicted with those lines. I mean something like "..check that the lines only have 'security' and 'base' on them..." But I guess I misunderstood it or something. Will add those repositories today, thanks for the tip.

sugar coating.. I guess I don't like eyecandy then, since that desktop doesn't look ugly but it still doesn't appeal to me. I like it simple, like gnome does it.

Oh yeah, and any tips on how you installed Enemy Territory on SuSE would be greatly appreciated. Or rather, tell me did your version of the installfile work right away, or did you have to do something special. Mine printed out some error message that I can't remember right now. But it didn't work. Also I was wondering where to find out which version of x.org / Xfree I've got running. I was about to update the graphics card driver but I wasn't sure what version I was running.
