i hear you about the "another place to remember" but i'm fairly firmly embedded in lj by now, personally. and there is functionality to be had even on a free level -- for instance photos can be uploaded to photobucket and posted. i think the more advanced features on lj are made for people with a little more free time and willingness to do a little extra work, whereas yahoo appears to be pretty streamlined and simplified.
in the end, it's your blog; i mostly like lj because so many people i know are on it, because i can set security levels, because of the communities, and because 99% of the people i read are on my friendlist. :)
i stand with myprior comment of "if you're on LJ i'll read it, if you're on yahoo360, i'll RSS feed it to my LJ...anyway it goes, YOU'RE ON LJ!!!"...somewhat paraphrased.
