Yep, I know I've been delinquent in posting. I do read, but I haven't posted a blasted thing this year. Well, Jen seems to have cornered the market on our news lately. So I'm sitting here watching the Patriots play Denver and we finally have news that Jen hasn't blabbed about before I could get to it ( Read more... )

Good name. Nothing that will make her wince when she gets to be 30.
I like it.

I think it is pretty cute because we can use Cait or Caity as nicknames, but I am still torn about spelling... Caitlin vs. Caitlyn

Not that the spelling makes a huge difference.

I vote for Caitlin, because the "y" thing is so overdone. And I like Alice. Yes, it's old fashioned, but it's nice old fashioned. It's not Ethel or Bertha old fashioned.

-in has won out for traditional reasons too. I ran back to the book 'o names to see which was more accepted. Being all about traditional names, I was easily pushed toward the -in ending when I saw it was the Irish version of the other name that was in the running: Catherine!

Nice. The only possible problem she might have is Alice, depending on whether Alice will be a "good" or "bad" name 15 years from now. :) But that's the middle name, & every kid should have at least one name that makes them wince just a tiny bit. *nods*

I'm open to dropping it. That was her (pointing to my left) insertion...

She's stuck with it much like I was. It is very much a family name. I had two great-grandmas named Alice. My grandma's name was Alice. My middle name is Alice (wouldn't want it for a first name). And since I adored my grandma, and loved my great grandmas, she will share in the tradition.

If I was mean I would use my grandma's name (which was the same as her mother's name), Alice Jane. But, I could never do that to my baby.

If it was a boy, his middle name would be Clifton, after Rodney's favorite grandfather. Once again, would never use it as a first name, but it is an important family name that can be used as a middle.

I figured it probably was a family name. It's a mite old-fashioned to be anything else.

And I rather like it, personally. I was just pointing out that she may be embarrassed by it when she hits puberty. But then again, if you explain it to her the way you have here, she may end up being very proud of the name. :)

Congrads on the name choice, and for actually agreeing on one! In Greg's family it appears to be a major argument for a lot of people. I think that's a perfectly great name.
