Wow! what an interesting screen name. Is there some meaning to this. . . I've heard of some type of catholic sin eater, but what made you choose this? just a bit curious- happy 4th
I actually learned of the concept from the movie, " The Final Cut"; although the concept is much older than that. The earliest reference to the practice that I am aware of, but I am by no means an authority, is referring to Tlazolteotl, the Aztec goddess of earth, motherhood and fertility; who had a redemptive role in the religious practices of the Meso-American civilization. At the end of an individual's life, he was allowed to confess his misdeeds to this deity, and according to legend she would cleanse his soul by "eating its filth". There are many religions world wide and through out history that have this "scapegoat" concept where a single entity, whether it be deity or human or a combination of both, who take on the responsibility of "consuming" and therefore relieving the deceased of the guilt accrued from sin during the course of their lifetimes.

Hi, I just saw a comment of yours in AMA and noticed that you took my icon, which I made. I don't mind if you use it, but in the future it's nice to ask permission and give credit where it's due.
