She's just trying to spare him some pain. Would you want the most potent possible reminder of something you could never have?

I'm not sure if it's the right call myself, but I think it's absolutely something she would do for the right reasons.

Reading this it was sad, but I was alright with it until the very last bit and then the bawling started. Oh my god Garrus ;__; And Liara too, that had to kill her but she did what she thought was right.

Short, sweet, PERFECT twist and I LOVE that it is open to multiple interpretations!

I read your comment, A!A, about Liara's best intentions. I've never been a large fan of Liara myself and in my interpretation, it was out of jealousy, because she actually loves Shepard more than she can admit, a twisted attempt to feel close to Shepard and keep that closeness to herself alone. (And she'd probably feel guilty as hell after a while and spend nights trying to get the data back but she can't, argh!). Not pretty, but also makes your story perfect and heartbreaking (at least for me).
