Hannah Shepard + Liara (Liara/FemShep) anonymous October 12 2012, 00:05:05 UTC
Written in response to the prompt below.

I love the character of Hannah Shepard when writers take the time to use her. So I'd love to read a story about her and Liara, (as Shepard’s surviving LI), interacting and comforting each other after Shepard’s death. Whether you keep their relationship platonic or go for something more is up to the a!a. Would prefer FemShep.

Written primarily (so far exclusively) from Liara's perspective. Synthesis ending, operating under the assumption that Hannah was given command of the Normandy while her daughter was leading Hammer. Not the default FemShep, so please accept my humble apologies if that breaks immersion for you, OP. I've done my best to give this wonderful, original prompt the sort of fill it deserves.

Joker is refusing to leave Earth.

Considerable effort, and perhaps the inappropriate use of hostile biotic force, but managed to convince Dr. Chakwas to release Liara from the med bay. Now she finds herself watching Samantha and Kaidan attempt to browbeat the helmsman into following Admiral Hackett’s orders from the far end of the bridge.

“Jeff,” EDI says, placing a hand on the man’s arm. “We cannot stay.”

“No!” he protests. “I’m not leaving her! Not again,” he says quietly. Liara remembers that the last time Joker disobeyed an order to evacuate, his stubbornness resulted in Shepard’s death. From Kaidan's tight, still expression, his thoughts lie along the same path.

“Excuse me.” A pair of hands come to rest on Liara’s shoulders. They move the asari out of the path to the cockpit. Gently, but firmly. A figure clad in a blue Alliance officer’s uniform strides past the asari. None of the group clustered around Joker notice the new arrival at first; they are all focused on trying to ensure that the Normandy begins her ( ... )

Happy to oblige, anon! I'm enjoying writing it. (My headcanon Hannah Shepard is without a doubt my favorite character in the ME universe).

OP! here to say yay a!a!! I'm so happy and grateful that you're filling this, and it's off to a fantastic start!

No problems at all with a custom Shepard. I *really* can't wait for more. Thank you, thank you, thank you! :-)

Oh, good! I realized halfway through the writing that I probably should have checked on that with you, but by then it was too late... I'd already succumbed to utter selfishness!

There is something-Someone has carefully-neatly-wrapped a small bundle in a torn, outdated star chart and placed it in the center of Liara’s bed. Only one person besides the Shadow Broker has unrestricted access to this cabin. The asari sits on the couch by one of her windows and eyes the package as though it has been rigged to explode. Knowing Shepard, maybe it has. The human has an inexplicable fondness for jokes that are more upsetting than amusing to her victims. Or perhaps she is right, and Liara just needs to cultivate a sense of humor.

Goddess only knows how much time passes before she manages to lift herself off of the couch. She is uncertain whether she wants to curl around the package, fall asleep, and let herself cling to this unexpected piece of Shepard, or whether she wants to throw it into the garbage incinerator. If she unwraps this parcel only to find another one of Shepard’s hollow promises about life after the Reapers….

Being wounded once was not enough, apparently. There is more pain in store for her. ( ... )

A!A: That makes two of us, anon. I have some idea of where I want to take this, but until it's all written, everything's up in the air!

A!A: To be honest, I think she's handling things pretty well so far, (granted, it's been less than a day), especially considering how off-the-rails she went last time Shepard died!

OP here again. Gah, a!a, this is beautifully done, and just so sad. You've really captured an exquisite sense of loss here. All my feels. *sniff*. I'm loving it.

Can't wait for more.

A!A: OP, although I'm enjoying myself writing this, it's knowing that you approve of it that makes it worth the effort! Every prompt that is posted on here is like a gift from an a!a to an OP, and I take gift-giving seriously!

A!A: My mother always said that we humans laugh when we don't know how else to react to a frightening or upsetting situation. I think I took that logic and applied it to Liara here. Either that, or I just can't stand too much sadness!
