FemShep considered herself lesbian until Male!Alien LI anonymous December 30 2012, 15:33:03 UTC
So this anon is in a... strange situation.

She's lesbian. I love my significant other and I hate having sex with men - yeah, I've tried.

But uh, I love Garrus to bits and I'm pretty sure he's an exception? (a fictional character exception. Of course...)

My girlfriend is in a similar situation with Thane and Mordin; she gets turned off by straight porn period and then... then there's Thane.

So we've got a prompt! FemShep has always considered herself lesbian. Thought Ashley was sexy. Didn't care much for Kaidan's advances. Enjoys the asari like any good human male.

Except then she meets Male!Alien!LI and it's like shit this guy has a dick but fuck if I wouldn't want to do this guy I love him SO MUCH.

Please, anons? We're fine with any male alien LI :)

This prompt is worthy of being filled.

But fuck if it didn't feel like a punch to the gut reading this. It brought back a shitton of worthless, hopeless feelings from years and years of trying to convince my parents and family that there would be no "exception" for me.

I hope the world gets to a point where lesbians-with-one-or-two-exceptions won't get flamed by their fellow lesbians for identifying as such (and I predict flaming in the comments, which is sad). I also hope the world gets to a place where when a lesbian like me says there will be no exception for her, she's believed instead of insulted or - worse - told she doesn't know who she really is and she'll change her mind. In fact, I wish humans didn't define sexuality so rigidly so that it didn't matter at all.

Good luck getting this filled, Anon. I hope this doesn't turn into a bloodbath.

Can I second all your wishes? And add that it would also be nice not be told you can't be bi if you haven't fucked enough X or Y yet?

OP is sorry and didn't mean to have those memories return to you.

This OP didn't have forgiving family either, but got past it a lot easier than many other LGBT's who get treated badly or kicked out of the house, and forgets that sometimes. I'm sorry to hear that some people just don't understand other's sexuality or even accept it, and it well and truly sucks that it has had such an effect on your life.

I wish that the world gets to a point where 'no exceptions' or 'many exceptions' gets accepted just as much as straight-and-cut sexualities, as well.

And I honestly hope this doesn't turn into a bloodbath either... I didn't think that it would, and in hindsight certainly should've put more thought into prompting this.

I hope it's okay for me to ask, Anon, in what way could this be filled in a way that's tasteful and not problematic? What would you advise a potential A!A if they wanted to write this prompt but in a considerate way?

I'm not a potential A!A because I really don't think I could fill this without fucking it up (this kind of fill needs to be done as carefully as possible), but I've faced this before in my fiction.

P!A here--I think special consideration needs to be given to the fact that Shepard's sexuality is rooted in the feminine female form but turians (as well as other aliens), just based on the fact that they aren't human, can open someone up to new possibilities because we're forced to judge them based on new standards. I think that was part of the appeal where Garrus is concerned--he's a big, somewhat scary-looking kitty dragon alien with insectile mandibles and big sharp teeth, but I love him to pieces because he's the biggest softie ever with Shepard. She might be into the ladies, but something about the way he treats her, or the fact that he followed her onto the Normandy time and again and she trusts him more than anyone in the galaxy, makes her love him just the same. Or if we're talking something more transient, his body is fascinating to Shepard ( ... )

I like that idea. Curious to see what others say about it.

Another thought -- maybe instead of presenting it as "she's a lesbian but an exception for Garrus", an author could write it more like "she's a lesbian who likes Garrus as well"?

Uh, does that make sense? Would it make a difference, do you think, or does it just sound the same? Hmm.

There's a subtle distinction, but one that could be up to how the a!a handles it, I think.

Bloodbath? Heavens, why? I'm 100% lesbo, but Gambit of the X-Men would be my exception. What the hell is with fictional characters? Gambit is just so... damn... boss.

This is a really great prompt, and I feel like it would address the issues that a few anons (such as myself) might be having concerning their own sexuality. I'm primarily straight, but there are two women in my life that would be my "exceptions", if the situation ever arose. Women don't do it for me, normally, but for them I'd go for it. The rigid boundaries that we put up as far as sexuality is concerned--the idea that you're either A, B, C, or D, when in fact it's a lot more fluid than that--can end up confusing the hell out of people when they don't fit within those categories.

So anyway, yeah, seconded! I really want to see this, like, a lot.

You must be me anon. And I agree...it is horribly confusing.

I privately prefer to think of myself as Character-sexual. I prefer a person with a strong character, trustworthy, funny, and a little weird. lol Gender doesn't matter to me, but it took me a very long time to realize that.

This prompt is win, thirded!

Seconded! Garrus seems to be a lot of people's exceptions, I've heard. He's my first non-human crush. Hoping for multi-fills, though, 'cause I also love me some Thane.
