"So, after the battle of London, the Normandy crashes on some uncharted planet. In the chaos of trying to get communications up and running and fix the ship~it goes a bit unnoticed that the planet is levo-based, and as such they have limited supplies for the dextro crew. Tali has basic nutrients built into her suit, Garrus doesn't.....
Looking for something angsty as Garrus tries to help get the Normandy moving, while slowly starving. Would be awesome if he had a li on the Normandy (I really don't mind who, could even be a good friend)who stays with him, but can't really do anything other than being supportive. Could even be a comm connection with Shepard, if any willing anon would prefer to go that route."
Since I can never write enough angst, I figured I'd take this on.

“For all sad words of tongue or pen, the saddest are these, 'it might have been.'” -John Greenleaf Whittier
It didn't matter that Ashley Williams knew that she couldn't have stopped this. Hope is a basic human condition, but this was no rising river to be desperately sandbagged, no raging fire to be fought. There were no reaper forces, no impossible, ancient enemy to find in her sights; this was a slow, inexorable, un-winnable battle

Ashley didn't question the grim edge to Garrus' expressive voice. The latest pig infestation had caught them unprepared, and the damage had been brutal. Rooting at the far side of the half buried hull, the beasts had found a plating fracture that had allowed them access to the storage bays. By the time they'd been discovered, the vast majority of the ship's supplies had been decimated. Six months worth of freeze-dried rations and MREs reduced to scattered wrappings and trampled, urine-soaked debris

Doctor Chakwas met them at the cavernous entrance of the Normandy's airlock, her aged face carefully scrubbed of any expression. She nodded wordlessly to them both, there was no words that could make this right, and she knew it. They followed her into the partially repaired bowels of the ship, stepping over piles of half cleared debris, and stepping over generator wiring that snaked off into the gloom

“I'm sorry, Ash...I'm..” Garrus gulped in a ragged gasp of air, mandibles flickering as he struggled to quell his outburst. Ashley tried to wipe her face on her sleeve, but Garrus reached out to touch the trails of tears on her face, his voice hitching with half-suppressed emotion
