Another Demolition in Flint

From The Flint Journal, November 1, 2007:

The two-story building at Windmill Place will be torn down, in part because of water damage from a leaking roof.Windmill Place was an outdoor shopping center/food court/nightclub complex that actually thribed in the early-to-mid eighties in Flint. Despite those being camera phone pics, they turned out pretty well. Or maybe it's my phone's camera that sucks.

I kind of like those pictures, but at the same time they make me a bit sad. I mean, that pretty much sums up Michigan as a whole. Ann Arbor always has things going on because of U of M, and Grand Rapids is building because of the DeVos/Cook/Kellogg money and GVSU is constantly expanding, but damn.

Battle Creek still smells like Fruity Pebbles or Count Chocula a few days a week.

Yeah, it is disappointing that this place had to be demolished, but there is a lot going on just down the road. There are dorms going in for U of M Flint, something they've never had before, and most of the buildings downtown are getting renovated/rebuilt. There's even two engineering firms taking separate buildings for headquarters, with one building a new building. I'm hoping that makes Flint a little more stable, and I think it will.
