They're attracted to it, as are most insects (as far as I know).
If you want to keep your window open yet try to keep bugs outside, it's just to keep the room dark. Because if you have a light on, there's bound to be loads of insects flying in through your window.

They're attracted to the light because light = heat. Example; le sun.
