Instead we should go back to repressing sexuality. That ought to make the world a bright and butterflied place, ought'nt it?
I don't know about robots, but I for one welcome our cyborg overlords in the year 2020.
Man there needs to be an 'edit comment' function... if there's one weak point worth considering it's that pornography tends to really warp a lot of people's expectations of sexual things, if they have one and not the other. A little bit of awareness can alleviate that, but what people do in pornography is not sex. :< Unless you watch 'amateur' I guess. Man, maybe I should put up an adult filter. x9 and... unfitting icon.
Yeah, I do think that some people get mis-informed by pornography on things. For instance, oral sex just doesn't film well, because somebody is always in the way of the camera. The oral sex you see in pornography is usually really strange, because it's intended for a third party. I don't think that was the source article's author's complaint, though.
Much of his writing on there seems to harp of some form of psychosis, from what I've gleaned. Honestly, I'm not sure WHAT the author's complaint is. Pornography taking jobs from autodealers? What like the ones that are going out of business? I didn't realize that there were so many jobs that we have to worry about companies stealing each other.
In this piece alone there's like a thousand little points to harp on. Really his big problem is probably just that he's never getting any. (/cruel)
Regardless of the general accuracy/inaccuracy of porn, it still doesn't turn you into a raving, antisocial madman who thinks rape is just fine and no human will ever be good enough. Know what porn does for me? MAKES ME WANT TO HAVE SEX WITH SOMEONE I'M DATING. >.> Yeesh.
That he had the character of the adult entertainment industry mainsteading the production and development of these robots confounded me. It worked against his analogy, for one thing. Plus, it's just hard to buy. It's more likely that both new ventures would start producing them and that older, established companies like IBM with plenty of existing capital would make sub-brands. Think like how the big media companies keep their different channels apart, like how Viacom owns both MTV and Nickelodeon.
Also, he very carefully avoids mentioning all the good that the sexbots would do. He mentions that they would start producing child-themed robots. Well, that would provide an alternative for paedophiles, wouldn't it? Instead of society asking them to be celibate for a lifetime, it would ask them to settle for artificial partners only, which in the author's conceit would be superior in many ways to the 'real' thing. Also, UGH, slippery slope. The only people interested in "child and animal robots" would be people already interested in those
( ... )
The author assumes women will be vehemently opposed to the robots... conveniently leaving out the existence of a male model for them. Sexism at its finest, assuming women have no sex drive.
Plus, the author mentions sperm donations dropping off as the men couldn't be bothered to drop by even with free use of a sex robot.
Easy solution that should be obvious to anyone who actually has half a brain: Create a new model of sex robot that comes with cold storage for all sperm put inside, and market it with a discount: 20% off the purchase price on the condition that the robot, twice a month (or so), walks off to the nearest fertility clinic to swap in an empty canister. PROBLEM SOLVED thank you goodnight.
Economic note: The participating sperm donation sites would of course fund the discount in an agreement with the sex robot companies. Everybody prospers.
