Portal 2: More is Less

Apr 29, 2011 22:09

I just finished Portal 2, and I'm-a gonna talk about it. Because it is another shining example of how every person who identifies themselves as a gamer loves Valve and everything they do to death, while I just don't think they make games that are all that great. I've probably already ranted about how Half-Life 2 is the most overrated piece of ( Read more... )

One more unrelated thing, because this was bothering me all day at work: there's a sign from one of the 1950s-era test chambers that states the test can not be completed without the use of a portal gun. Really? Aperture Science has been just sitting on portal technology for 60 years? No wonder they went bankrupt!

"Oh, I don't know...I mean, we do have this one thing that will let you instantly teleport any object--even people--from one place to another, but I really can't think of any practical purpose for that sort of technology."

Yeah, HL1 seemed like it could have been good at the time, but I played it a few years later and you can't go back to those games. HL2 was just mediocre. And how many passes they give Valve for not finishing their games. When Blizzard takes 6 years to make a game, at least you know where the time went when you get the game. How many hours of game are in starcraft 2? 20? With a world-class multilayer and full-featured editor. What was in episode 2? 4 hours of single player content and a cliffhanger? But somehow they get exactly the same fawning forgiveness for infinite dev cycles and slipped releases from the fans and, more importantly, the press ( ... )
