Paradise was one of the most popular nightclubs in the city. Bodies grinding on each other, the smell of sweat and alcohol clung in the air. Minho could see why people loved it there so much, and on a normal night he would enjoy losing himself in the crowd, getting lost in a sea of humans just begging to be pierced by his thirsty appetite.
This club was more than it would appear to the regular customer. There was a private section in the back, for the club's more special regulars. Minho had heard of it well, even visited once or twice in the past. That was before he came along though, Jonghyun, who was now the talk of the town -- Well, the world of vampires to be more specific. Somehow, he'd only been turned for a few short months, but was already taking the world of fledglings by storm. He'd managed to gather quite a following, with his gorgeous body and that beautiful, soulful voice that could pull emotions from the coldest of hearts. Minho could understand. Although he hadn't seen the other man since he became a vampire, he knew him quite well.
Memories of the short, smooth voiced man flooded his senses, teasing him mercilessly. Jonghyun had been his prey not long before another vampire turned him. Minho had found him and watched him for several nights. He even marked the small bar Jonghyun sang at as his territory, through a series of well placed feedings, because that's where he went most nights. It had almost been time to move in, to sink his teeth into that beautiful human's neck, but someone else got there first.
He had been infuriated. Although he didn't know who Jonghyun's sire was, he knew that if he came face to face with the other vampire, he wouldn't be able to ignore the desire to rip his or her throat out. At first he'd simply thought Jonghyun had disappeared, but then he started hearing whispers, and it didn't take him long to figure out it was the same person. The fact that the human he'd wanted to taste was now a vampire kept him away for a while. It wouldn't be the same, surely. He probably wouldn't even feel the same desires around him. It was pointless to pursue him anymore.
Then the talks got louder. So many people were talking about this fledgling. It was enough that Minho was sure he would soon garner more than supporters. Soon enough, he'd have enemies too. It was very foolish of such a young vampire to make such a name for himself. The more people talked, the more curious Minho became, and the stronger his memories of desire haunted him. He had to meet this Jonghyun, even if he was a vampire now.
The bouncer standing by the back door knew who he was, had seen him there before. But he didn't need to. Anyone who knew could see it in him, what he was, the power he had. All he got was a nod as he pushed through the door. The smell of alcohol got stronger, mixed with blood and hit his senses. Some people were dancing. A few vampires had willing humans stretched out beside them, lost in the ecstasy, probably so far gone they didn't even know their names anymore. Minho's eyes swept over the occupants of the room before settling on one.
There he was, surrounded by other fledglings, their bodies pressing against his, eyes shining with adoration and wonder. He was laying there, shirtless and stretched out on a plush lounging chair, looking like a fucking god. Minho felt his nose wrinkle a little. He'd of course heard of vampires who took pleasure in each other, but that had never been something that was very attractive to him. They weren't human. There was no nourishing life pumping through their veins. How could they get enough satisfaction to make it worth it?
It took only seconds after he'd entered the room for their eyes to meet. Jonghyun's chocolate brown orbs sparkled before he turned his attention back to the fledglings who were trying their best to be close to him, pushing each other out of the way in a slow, seductive fight for attention. Minho scoffed and looked away. It was the same everywhere though, only most of the time it was a vampire and his or her humans. Suddenly a swarm of vampires brushed past him, making him tense, eyes darting around at them. They did nothing, only continued moving by him, and he realized after a second that they were the vampires who had been all over Jonghyun. His eyes darted back toward the red cushions just in time to see the shorter man moving towards him.
He had a grace about him, a confident air rarely found in one so young. Minho thought it was arrogant, and likely foolish. Jonghyun's lips were curled into an amused smile as he stepped close, too close. Minho felt the hairs on his arms rise, a shiver trying to work down his spine, but he fought it off, showing nothing to the other.
"You don't approve of this place?" Jonghyun asked suddenly, his voice sliding over Minho's body like butter. "Or… is it me that you don't approve of?"
Taken by surprise at the blunt question, Minho shifted slightly. He had the urge to cross his arms, to protect himself, but stubbornness held him motionless. "What led you to think that?" he responded simply, giving away nothing.
Jonghyun hummed in response, leaning back a little and giving Minho back the personal space that made him much more comfortable. "The look you had on your face when you saw me, or maybe it's just that I've heard a lot of older vampires are … uncertain about me. You could be one of them."
Minho knew for a fact that Jonghyun hadn't heard what his personal thoughts were. He was careful with his tongue, because he knew it could make the difference between life and death. Only the foolish said everything they thought. "You want to know what I think?" the words left his mouth in a low voice, despite knowing any other vampire there could hear if they wanted.
A simple smile and a nod were all Jonghyun gave in return, making Minho's blood boil. Fucking hell, this guy was cocky.
"I think you're an idiot. You're young, and you're drawing all this attention to yourself. Keep it up and you'll be dead long before your natural human life would have run."
That made his features twitch, a flash of annoyance showing in his eyes before he let out a loud, almost bark-like, "Yah!" making the entire rom pause to turn their attention to the little asshole. "Leave us."
His voice was so commanding, so sure that Minho almost found it hard to believe he had just recently been turned, but he still looked young. There were still parts of him that seemed more human than vampire. Life clung to his dying body, something that would slowly fade with time. Slowly, everyone in the room started to move, another thing that surprised the older vampire. "What power do you hold over them?" he questioned curiously as the last one walked out the door.
Jonghyun simply smirked and moved back towards his lounging chair, stopping at the small table to pour himself a drink. "Wouldn't you like to know?" It wasn't really a question. They both knew he did.
Stepping up behind him, Minho gave a small nod, eyes narrowing. "I would."
Looking over at the taller man, Jonghyun simply smiled secretively before taking a drink. "Hmm, most people are more than happy to become a follower if an impressive enough person steps up to lead them. Most don't want that responsibility, and like this, they feel protected, wanted. Turning can be both scary and lonely. I gave them an alternative to that."
The worst part was that everything Jonghyun said made complete sense to Minho. He could easily remember how frightening everything was when he'd turned. Maybe, like the others, he would have been quick to follow a charismatic leader too. But Jonghyun was young himself, hardly strong enough to protect anyone from other supernatural forces. At least he should be. What made him so attractive to them?
Minho was about to continue questioning the other when Jonghyun cut him off. "Enough about that, though. What I want to talk about is.. " he began, stepping closer to slide his hand up Minho's abdomen, "is much more interesting."
A flash of desire threw Minho off. Although he had been attracted to Jonghyun when he was human, he was a vampire now, and Minho had little to no sexual interest in other vampires. His tongue darted out to wet his pale lips, the shorter vampire's eyes catching and holding onto the movement.
"Do you sleep with every vampire who comes in here?" Minho asked, the question having a little more bite to it than he meant. It's not like he was jealous, no. He wasn't upset that other vampires were getting a piece of what he'd wanted, what he couldn't really posses anymore.
Suddenly two warm lips were pressing against his, the temperature and scent making him all too aware that the other had recently fed. The kiss was rough as Jonghyun shoved him back against the nearest wall with a force too great for any human to have mustered. Minho grunted at the harsh movements against his lips and reached up to dig his fingers into Jonghyun's hair, roughly pulling his head back. A thrill went through him at the sharp intake of breath from the shorter man. He almost hated it, but he still wanted him, wanted him badly.
Turning them around, Minho shoved Jonghyun's body up against the wall harder, making the other gasp. A cracking sound from the force echoed through the room, though barely audible over the loud music playing. He pressed himself up against the younger vampire, his cock already hard, pressing into Jonghyun's stomach.
"So easy," Jonghyun teased, moving his hand to slide over the aching muscle. Minho felt himself flush slightly because it was true. Jonghyun had an affect on him that was different somehow, but he wasn't going to admit that anytime soon. Leaning closer, Jonghyun's tongue darted out to slide over his earlobe before he whispered in a dangerously low voice. "And here I heard you didn't like other vampires."
A flash of embarrassment surged through him because he'd been caught, and he didn't like it. No one should have power over him, not anymore. Maybe that was why he didn't like other vampires. Humans could never really get an advantage over him. Shoving the other back, Minho snarled and turned to leave. There was no way he was going to let Jonghyun have this affect on him.
"Wait!" the shorter man practically shouted, grabbing onto him quickly, pulling him back with a strength that had them both crashing into the wall. Minho felt his eyes widen, taken by surprise that Jonghyun could so easily overpower him.
"How.." he felt the whispered word come out of his lips as he pressed a hand to the wall, straightening himself as he looked down at Jonghyun, who had that secretive smile curled back onto his lips again.
"If you stay, I'll tell you," he whispered, lips brushing over a tense jawline. Jonghyun's hands were finding their way back to his body, sliding under his jacket and up the back of his shirt. Fucking hell. This guy was really asking for it. Growling low in his throat, Minho pushed his body up against Jonghyun's, pressing him up flat against the wall. This time their lips met in a mutual kiss, harsh and passionate. Minho felt sharp teeth cut into his lip, blood bubbling at the surface only long enough for a warm tongue to slide over it.
Dark eyes met even darker ones, a spark making a shiver run down Minho's spine. "I'll stay," he agreed in a low whisper, hands sliding down to tug at Jonghyun's jeans roughly before quickly undoing them. A sinful moan slipped from the shorter man's lips, hips rocking forward, a lazy smirk on his lips that had Minho's blood boiling again. "You fucking.." he wanted to call him every dirty name that he'd come to know in the centuries he'd been alive, but then Jonghyun's hand was pressing against his cock through his pants, squeezing him firmly.
"You could use some blood," he suggested huskily, looking up at him through dark lashes.
"There's no.." Minho started, about to point out the severe lack of humans in the room but the way Jonghyun tilted his head, baring his neck so invitingly made Minho's mind go blank. Suddenly, every sense he had was clinging onto the way Jonghyun smelled, the scent of his blood filled his nose and clouded his sense. It wasn't normal. No vampire had ever smelled like that to him.
A desperate growl slipped from his lips and suddenly, he had Jonghyun in his arms, and he moved fast -- a blur to any human eye -- to press him back down against that red couch he'd been sprawled across only minutes before. His body pressed down tightly against the blonde's, mouth finding it's way to the stretch of neck so willingly offered to him. He could feel the pulse beneath his skin, the fresh blood surging through him from his recent feed. Minho was so hard it ached as his mouth attached to the warm skin, just above the large vein he'd been so fond of noticing when the man beneath him had been human.
Instead of immediately sinking his teeth in, Minho found himself relishing in every bit of the vampire under him. His tongue lapped slowly across the warm skin, his head reeling, a similar feeling he would have gotten near a human if he hadn't eaten for days, weeks even. It didn't make sense, but he was too far gone to question what was happening. Jonghyun made a low moaning noise that had Minho's hips grinding down against him of their own accord. That only urged him on, and Jonghyun's hands soon found their way to Minho's hips, holding onto him as he slowly rocked up against him. Their clothed erections rubbed together, and Minho gasped against the skin he'd been thoroughly abusing with his mouth.
"Bite me, Minho.." Jonghyun breathed out, sounding as touched out as Minho felt. It sent a rush of power through him, but his mind was still foggy with the scent of such sweet blood. Not seeing any reason to resist such a nice offer, the older, taller vampire opened his mouth, pressing two sharp teeth against the tight flesh. Jonghyun tilted his head a little more to the side, surprisingly pliant and then Minho's teeth were sinking in. It was more difficult, he had to bite harder than he ever would with a human. It almost made him growl, but as soon as the blood bubbled up and started seeping past his lips, every other thought vanished from his mind.
The way Jonghyun started pushing up against him harder, like he was fucking the shit out of him, only aided in driving Minho out of his mind. He started sucking, hard, drinking like it was the oxygen he was starving for. He couldn't think. He could only feel and taste and need. Jonghyun simply writhed underneath him, and Minho could swear he heard him beg for more, but the incoherent noises coming from his lips made it impossible to know for sure what he was trying to say.
Everything went by in a blur until suddenly Jonghyun threw his weight up, knocking Minho off of him. In a daze, Minho sat there on the floor, completely lost for a moment as his eyes slowly moved up to Jonghyun's form, still laying back on the couch. It was a good thing he'd found the strength to throw him off or Minho would have sucked him dry. Not that it would have killed him, but.. he would have been so vulnerable that anything could have. Even now, with so much blood gone, he would be weakened. Minho couldn't help but wonder why Jonghyun had let him feed. What would that accomplish other than leaving him vulnerable? Suddenly an urge so strong to protect Jonghyun flared up inside of him. It was like a fire, and he found himself standing up quickly, his new strength allowing him to move faster than ever. His arms were wrapping around Jonghyun's pliant, weary body, and before anyone knew the better they were both gone.
By the time they were inside Minho's flat -- he'd bought out the basement area of an apartment -- Jonghyun had regained much of his strength. He blinked wearily as Minho sat him down in his bed, a deep blue and white comforter and sheet set on a dark mahogany bed frame.
"What was all that for?" he asked, voice groggy like he'd been sleeping, but there was a pleased tilt to his lips, as if Minho had done exactly what he wanted him to.
"I.." Minho started, then realized what he'd done was kind of silly. It wasn't like anyone there was even trying to attack him. He could have had plenty of time to recover before anyone even realized he'd been so thoroughly drained of blood.
A deep chuckled slipped from Jonghyun's plush lips as he sat up. "Don't worry about it. I suppose I should say thank you. I never knew it would be so easy."
Confusion swept through Minho. What was he talking about? So easy .. as if it had been a part of his plan all along. Something clicked in Minho's brain, and suddenly he felt like he was a pawn in a game he knew nothing about. Jonghyun's actions certainly had seemed driven, but he thought it was all about lust. But maybe .. maybe he had just been stupid. "What do you mean?" his voice was low, uncertain, dangerous even. No one fucked with him. Not anymore.
Jonghyun laughed and shook his head. "Don't look so sour. Come sit down. I'll tell you everything." Minho took an uncertain step closer, which received a demanding look from Jonghyun as he patted the bed a bit harder. "Come on. I promise I'll tell you anything you want to know. Now sit."
As odd as it was, he felt kind of compelled to listen to him. Still looking a bit sulky, Minho moved to sit down in front of Jonghyun, facing him as he stared him down. "Tell me what's going on. Why did you want me to feed from you? Why .. did I suddenly feel like I had to protect you?"
Jonghyun's gaze softened a bit, right after a spark of happiness passed through them. "Well, it's all very simple actually. It's a kind of old blood magic I learned about once I was turned. I've been waiting for someone good enough to use it on. Basically, I've bonded us. It's like a trade. In return for your loyalty and protection, I'll give you a strength you never even knew was possible. Haven't you felt it already, Minho?"
Eyes widening, Minho realized he had. He'd already felt that new strength growing in him. But it didn't make any sense. He'd never heard of vampires bonding. He groaned and reached up to press his fingers to his forehead. "How .. how do you even have this power? You're just a fledgling."
Jonghyun scoffed and sat up a bit straighter, his eyes flashing with something between annoyance and smugness. "Hardly. I'm a lot more than just another fledgling. I was turned by .. someone very powerful. He told me many tricks to survive before he left." Jonghyun's lips pursed a bit before he added softly, "I don't know if I'll ever see him again."
Frowning a bit, Minho looked down. Whether or not a vampire was deserted by their sire was really up to the sire. Minho hadn't ever turned anyone, but he was sure he wouldn't have abandoned them, not like he had been. He had been a joke, a night of tricks and laughs. Once the man had his fun with him, he was gone, just as quickly as he came. It left Minho helpless, fending for himself in a new world he knew nothing of. Maybe Jonghyun's sire wasn't as careless, but he'd still left him. That made Minho a little angry at the bastard. 'Ah, it must be the bond,' he thought before inwardly growling. That was annoying. "My sire left me too," he muttered, hoping it would make him feel a little better about it.
Jonghyun's eyes widened a bit as he looked up at him before he suddenly smiled. "Yeah? It's hard to imagine you being a newly turned vampire. You're so calm and .. powerful seeming now. I always thought so, even before I was turned."
Blinking, Minho tensed a little. "Before you .. you noticed me back then?"
At that Jonghyun laughed loudly and shook his head. "Of course. You were the most attractive person to come into that bar, and you were there so often. I was hoping you'd say hello one day instead of always slipping away before I had the chance to. But then .. one night everything changed. It didn't take me long to figure out you were a vampire. It explained a lot. And as soon as I knew, I knew you were the one I wanted. My first knight, so to speak."
If Minho hadn't been so completely swept away by this short charismatic man, he might have thought he was a bit crazy. But as much as it was hard to believe, he felt it, the strong pull between them.
"So, is this how you control all those others too?"
That pulled an indignant scoff from the shorter man. "Hell no. I wouldn't bond one of them. The link goes both ways. I wouldn't trust a single one of them to be able to protect me. They're like dogs.."
It was a cruel thing to say, but Minho could hardly feel bad for any of them. It was true, and all older vampires saw fledglings in this way. They had yet to prove their worth, so they were basically worthless. Jonghyun was different, though, and Minho was starting to see what all the other older vampires would before long as well. He would need protection, he would need someone like Minho to keep him from being as vulnerable. It made so much sense to him now. Jonghyun hadn't been left defenseless by his sire. He'd been given the ammunition to take their world by storm, and so far he wasn't doing a bad job of it.
"Isn't that what I am?" he whispered after a moment. "Aren't I just your guard dog?"
Jonghyun's eyes widened a bit and he quickly shook his head before scooting closer. His hand rose to brush a calloused thumb across his cheek, a small smirk tugging at the male's lips. "No, of course not, Minho. You're so much more than that. We're a team."
And just like that, Minho was starting to be won over. If they were a team, and he had no real way out of it, he was determined to at least be the star player. He'd always loved sports after all.
