Golden Globes Canceled!

Jan 07, 2008 18:57

I have fully supported the writer's strike. I think they deserve $.04 per DVD. I think they should own the rights to material they write for the internet and for promotional pieces. I think they have been jerked around by the studios ( Read more... )

I think that the show was canceled more because the stars said that they wouldn't cross the picket lines than anything else.

Of course, I could be entirely wrong.

The Oscars would be bad without the pomp, but it might get the studios to care.

I'm sure that when the entire acting guild said they would not cross to be a presenter or a nominee it put a damper on things. But it really sucks! I wish they could have worked something out.

Thanks for my Maria newsflash. You are keeping me informed, yet again. It does seem that awards season is going to be pretty lackluster this year. I have no idea where things are going to go or when they will end, but there does not appear to be an end to the problem in sight. *sigh* Maybe you can make up paper dolls of the stars and dress them up instead? A very poor substitute, I know.

Paper dolls of my favorite stars? That is very sad.

The whole thing makes me very sad. And I wasn't kidding - they cancel the Oscars and you had better send valium.

Somehow, I don't think you would be the only person in need of drug support if the Oscars are cancelled. Not just the fans, but all those fashion houses and the TV commentators for the pre-show... yeah, you would not be alone.

I read that LA lost 10 Million when the GG got canceled in everything from limo drivers to hairdressers and everyone else that works in some way or another for the stars the studios and the media. Ouch!

I heard there is still going to be 'the pretty' as a lot of the agencies are hosting 'parties', etc and they also said that they'd auction off the outfits that A-listers are wearing and the proceeds would go to support the Writer's Strike Fund, so it sounds like they're trying to put a plan in place to 'provide the pretty' and also entice the celebrities to show up by supporting the writers. Needless to say, all those plans were up in the air probably until the announced the cancellation of the actual Globes, but I'm sure there are a lot of people scrambling now! Hee.

But these parties won't be telecast and I won't get to see the pretty, and that is the important thing. However, I am glad that they are using this as the opportunity to raise money.

I saw it coming a mile away. It was so obvious. When SAG announced that the starts wouldn't be crossing the picket line the Golden Globes had no chance.
This are the awards I enjoy the most, because they have TV and Movies all in one, so it hurts me to see them go. I guess if the networks don't take the writers serious after this, this strike has a long future ahead if it.

I think it will be a long haul, sadly.

I still stand by my prediction that if the Oscars get canceled I will need to be sedated.

My fingers are still crossed.
