It's a lot, but hey if it works then great.

KRAM

Hehehe, yea, I bet. LOL.
Yea, they help.... if it wasn't for my meds I definitely wouldn't be here today, or if lucky in a straight jacket. Meh....
Yesterday I was depressed again and today I wake up at 6 am.... seems I'm still on the rollercoaster, but the ride has slowed down I think. Hehe.

Wow, that's a lot of medications. I recognize Abilify as an antidepressant. What are the other ones for? How come Rivotril is taken in three different doses at different times of day?

Ah, I reread and saw Lamictal is also an antidepressant. How come your doc has you on two different antidepressants? Why didn't she just raise the dose of abilify?

I like the new picture. Cool hair.

Well, I've cut down a lot on Rivotril, which is highly addictive (benzodiazepines), and I can't get down further. I simply take a quarter of a pill morning, a whole noon and a half night. It's to keep me calm. LOL.

Abilify makes me restless, and the doc thought that they'd 'work good together', because Abilify 'wake you up' while Lamictal drowses you.

Your doctor doesn't sound that great, honestly. You shouldn't need a medication to cancel out the side effects of another medication. Have you tried Zoloft for the depression? I used to take it back when I was depressed and it worked well - if you take it in the morning. I had trouble getting to sleep when I took it at night. The only time I had side effects from it were when I accidentally forgot to take it for a couple days. You can't just stop taking it cold turkey - but that's probably true for all SSRIs.

Don't make any changes without seeing a doc though, with the amount of drugs you're on, you'd need to be careful about making drug changes.

Just looked up benzodiazepines - that looks like a hard core drug. Still, even if you have to take that one, I'm not convinced you need all the other ones.

I know it's a lot, but due to my diagnosis and very recent breakdown, it's necessary. It's not to CANCEL the sideeffects, I was given Lamictal to calm down. Would just be weird to give me more of something that makes me restless. I've already cut down on Abilify once. The long term plan is to only take Abilify.

My doctor is very reasonable I think - she has been with me since I was first admitted to a mental hospital. I think she's very competent.

And don't worry,. I never do any medicine changes without consulting the pros. :-)

My first thought is wow, that's a lot of pills, but I don't actually know--I work with folks who are really psychotic, and I know a lot of them are on various cocktails of antipsychotics, anti-depressants, mood stabilizers, sleep enhancers, etc., but I don't actually have the stats about what is a "lot" either in number of pills or in doses. (We're actually talking to Otsuka about doing some research with them on their shot-version of Abilify, but I think that's as an adjunct to anti-psychotics for schizophrenia, to address cognitive problems, rather than as an anti-depressant per se. So I'm intrigued to know it makes you restless! hmmm...)

I'm glad you are doing well, though!! :) We always joke, when a person was doing well on their drugs and then something changes and it's not working any more--Homeostasis is a bitch. :)

Hehe, yea, it's quite a lot...... I was pretty stabile and doing good until quitting smoking... (BTW: My diagnosis is schizotypia and schizophrenia simplex).

Abilify and Cipralex make me restless. Cut down on both (was actually on an OD of cipralex - 30 mg - for 3 years) with 10 mg, because I was walking to and fro all the time, unable to relax or sit down. It helped to cut down - a lot.

I don't even know what homeostasis is... *blushes*

Homeostasis is the tendency of the body to find its balance, in a sense--when it's too cold, your internal temperature goes up to try to maintain itself, when you're too hot, you sweat to cool off; when you're low on the energy your cells need, you get hungry and eat, etc. The problem is, with antipsychotics and these other drugs, that your body gets used to them and tries to get back to its previous balance, by growing new receptors or pulling back on synapses or whatever--and then the drugs stop working. That's an oversimplified view, but it's the gist. ;) It's really annoying! (to say the least...)

Funny, given the mood disorders you were commenting on I figured you were major depressive with psychosis, or bipolar disorder. But you're in Europe and it's a slightly different diagnosis schema from the US. :)

Oooh, like that! Thanks for explaining! Homeostasis IS a bitch, LOL.

Well, actually my 'Support Person' who comes in my apartment to check on me said that my condition seemed very simular to Bipolar. And I couldn't agree more. But usually my mood swings are never that extreme OR frequent..... I'm hoping it was a one-time-thing. No doubt that I suffer from psychosis and anxiety..... I got the diagnosis Schizotypia in 2004 and then also Schizophrenia Simplex in 2005. Have been in the psychiatric system since 1998 (As a 15 year old), where I was admitted because of Anorexia Nervosa.

I don't think the diagnosis schema varies THAT much from the US to Europe... but what do I know, LOL. You're the scientist. :-)

Why are meds terrible for you??? Yea, I definitely wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the meds.... but I do think that I'm on too many meds all together. Good thing that I'm supposed to cut down according to the plan put together by the doc.
