wow thanks for giving me ideas! i read epileptic and um all of satrapi's graphic novels. check out the one about her uncle "chicken with plums" :D

Does a memoir have to be 100% true to be called a "memoir", even in graphic format?

For example, is Jessica Abel's La Perdida, which is undeniably influenced by her experiences in Mexico City, a memoir (despite the fact that a huge chunk of the people and relationships depicted are quite obviously fictional)?

i know. it's problematic. same reason i didn't include michael rabagliati's "paul moves out". "semi-fictitious"? "thinly veiled autobiography"? i don't have an answer.
