Chapter 5:

“Jun?” whispered Sho as he entered Jun’s room.

Sho knew that something was wrong the moment Jun didn’t show up at the garden. Being the most worrisome of the bunch, Sho decided to check out Jun’s room after Nino left.

Just as he was walking past Jun’s window, he heard someone crying. Sensing something was terribly wrong. He peeked through the window, only to find Jun on the floor, with Ohno towering above him.

“Jun?” repeated Sho walking up to Jun’s body.

Sho bent down and embraced his friend. That’s when he felt something out of place. Sho picked up Ohno’s discarded jacket and felt through the pockets, only to find: Jun’s letter to Toma, unopened.

“That bastard…..”

“Jun’s gone?” asked Aiba, not believing what Nino told him.

Nino nodded.

Aiba could feel tears blurring his vision, as he tried to stay calm.

“Why?” cried Aiba, tears flowing non-stop down his face.

“I swear I’m going to murder Jun one day,” cursed Nino, trying to hide his disappointment.

“Either ways, let’s go find Sho and Ohno,”

“You’re awesome!” exclaimed Johnny as he and Ohno pushed a stretcher into Jun’s room.

“Just doing my job,” replied Ohno modestly.

Silence filled the room as Ohno and Johnny loaded Jun’s body onto the stretcher.

“Tell me, Ohno,” started Johnny, “Did that Toma person really pressed his switch?”

“Yes, he did”

Ohno took the piece of white cloth from Johnny and covered Jun.

“If I remembered correctly, it should be 6 years ago,”

“6 years ago?” mumbled a voice.

“That’s right, Aiba-kun,” smiled Ohno, “6 years ago. Where’s Nino and Sho?”

“Nino went to look for you, I haven’t seen Sho” said Aiba, words accidentally slipping out from his mouth.

Ohno slowly walked up to Aiba.

“Don’t come any closer, you murderer!” shouted Aiba, frantically trying to get his wheelchair to move. They just had to pick this time to be stuck.

However, Ohno didn’t stop walking. When he got to Aiba, Ohno placed his hands firmly onto the sides of Aiba’s wheelchair, his face just centimeters away from Aiba’s, allowing Aiba to see every bit of Ohno’s smirk.

“You forgot to unlock the brake,” informed Ohno, reaching out to help Aiba pull the brake handle, before leaving the room.

“Ohno…” sighed Johnny, hastily catching up with former, while pushing the stretcher loaded with Jun’s body.

Aiba felt his heartbeat resume as he wheeled himself to the centre of the room.

“Ohno has been lying all this time,” he mumbled out loud.

“That’s not possible!” snapped Nino as marched from the doorway to where Aiba was.

“It is true,” came Sho’s voice, “and I have evidence too,”

“Sho-kun, you just don’t like Ohno, don’t you?” defended Nino, “and you managed to get Aiba on your side,”

“Nino, it is true!” whined Aiba.

“What is true?”

Nino, Aiba and Sho turned.

“You bastard!’ yelled Sho, running up to Ohno and punching him in the face.

“Jun trusted you and all you did was stab him in the back?” added Aiba.

Ohno’s expression changed.

“I didn’t want to do this!” shouted Ohno while sniffing, “I was forced to,”

Sho refused to believe Ohno and couldn’t resist the urge to punch him once more.

As Sho was about to whack Ohno, he felt someone grabbing him by the waist and pulling him backwards.

“Nino…” muttered Sho, after recovering from the shock.

“Ohno, are you alright?” asked Nino worriedly as he bent down to examine Ohno.

“Can’t you see he’s on their side?” asked Sho, trying his best to control his rage. He pulled out Jun’s letter and thrust it at Nino, “He didn’t even deliver Jun’s letter!”

Ohno stood up and dusted his shirt.

“That’s right, what are you going to do about it?”

That sentence pissed the hell out of Sho. He mustered his strength and hurled himself at Ohno. This time, when Sho’s fist connected with Ohno, a small white device fell from Ohno’s shirt pocket.

“It’s a switch,” said Nino is disbelief as he watched the object slid across the floor.

“You’re one of us?” asked Aiba.

Sho and Ohno looked at each other in the eye, before making a mad dash for the switch. Having longer legs, Sho managed to reach it first. He pulled open the cap and held it up for everyone to see.

“Don’t come any closer, or I’ll kill you,” threatened Sho, as he walked over to where Nino and Aiba were.

“It’s not my fault!” protested Ohno, “If I didn’t kill you, they’ll kill me!”

“Liar!” spat Sho.

“You trust me, don’t you, Nino?” pleaded Ohno.

Nino stared down at his shoes.

Just as Sho was distracted by Nino’s silence, Ohno seize the opportunity and darted towards Sho, trying to get his precious device back.

“Get off me!” cried Sho, as he and Ohno struggled with each other. They exchanged punches and kicks, but Sho still refused to give in, and there is no way Ohno will give up.

Suddenly, a click sound echoed in the room. Everyone froze. The room was engulfed in a thunderous silence.

“Nino….” Mumbled Aiba, on the verge of tears.

A soft thud could be heard when a small switch fell and hit the floor near Nino, followed by a loud bang as Sho’s body fell to the floor.

“Nino, how could you?” screamed Aiba, bursting into tears once again, “how could you kill Sho?”

Nino didn’t reply, instead, he squatted beside Sho’s body and retrieved Ohno’s switch.

“Kill me,” said Ohno emotionlessly.

Nino still didn’t reply, but just stood up and just walked slowly towards Ohno.

“I said kill me!” screamed Ohno, falling to the floor, “hurry up and end my misery!”

Nino bent down and offered the switch to Ohno.

“Nino….” Whispered Ohno, finally accepting the switch after many silent persuasions from Nino.

“I killed 67 people so far,” admitted Ohno, not daring to look at Nino or Aiba, “67 of my friends, just so that I could live,”

Nino didn’t respond. Instead, he just walked back to Aiba and grabbed his wheelchair handles, getting ready to push Aiba out of the lonely room, when he heard Ohno whisper, “Let’s escape,”

“You’re lying again,” yelled Aiba, finally saying something after his long moment of silence.

“No I’m not,” said Ohno firmly with a nod. He went over to Sho and pulled out Nino’s switch from his pocket before handing it to its rightful owner.

“I want to return Nino the favour. The three of us will live.”
