Chapter 24:

Jun looked up at the signboard of the restaurant he patronises frequently , starred down at the door, gazed into the  interior, before repeating the cycle again, while wondering if he needed to get his eyes checked.

The usual ‘George Clooney’ sign had been smashed to bits, it’s debris littering the floor, the door displayed a crooked ‘closed’ sign and the interior was stripped of its furniture.

There was only one person who could and wanted to do something like this - that old hag of his.

“What the hell did you do to Nino?” greeted Jun when he burst into her office.

He slammed both hands on the desk, causing the pencil holder to fall off, and gave her his best DoS glare.

“I did it for your sake,” replied Kaeda coolly, “How else could I get you to study in New York?”

Jun threw himself onto the chair in front of Kaeda’s desk, and buried his head in his hands. He didn’t want anyone to see him like this, but it was all too much to take. It was the ultimatum of staying with the one you love but make him suffer, or being separated, but him being able to lead his life normally.

“I have a deal to make,” said Kaeda, laughing to herself at Jun’s flustered-ness, “If you do study in New York, I would return his and his friends life to normal,”

Jun looked up slowly, wondering if it was all a trap. He knows how sneaky this old hag can be, and he wasn’t going to walk blindly into whatever evil plan she was scheming up, but after a rather long while, Jun’s instinct told him she was being truthful, for once.

“Deal,”

The clock tower above him ticked happily away, beaming down at the ignorant passersby and watching the young man under it glance at his watch, wondering if this was some kind of payback for the last time.

He had called Jun, and arranged to meet at Ebisu Garden Place, Clock Tower Square, at 1o’clock, where Nino was right now, but even the latter’s shadow was no where in sight.

The clock tower proudly displays the hour hand at one, and the minute hand at 9: 1 45pm.

Maybe Jun decided to move on.

“Nino!”

Nino looked up, thinking that Jun’s voice sounded awfully like Sho’s…

But that was because the one who called him wasn’t Jun, but Sho.

“Sho? What are you doing here?” asked Nino, once Sho reached him.

In between pants, Sho explained everything.

How he managed to get himself to Narita airport was a big mystery, even to Nino himself. He didn’t know how or why he decided to go there, he just did.

Slipping through the security and customs, Nino managed to get to the airstrip, where he saw a small jet plane with the word ‘Matsumoto’ printed on it, starting to take off.

“Jun!” cried Nino running after the plane. Nino getting through the customs was already considered a miracle, so him being able to catch up with a plane has no words to describe it.

“Jun!” Nino tried again, wishing with all his might that his voice would be able to penetrate the thick body of the plane. He could see Jun sulking in his seat through the tiny window, looking like the time when they first met.

Due to some divine intervention, Jun so happened to glance out of the window, and saw Nino running alongside the plane screaming his name like crazy.

“Nino…” mumbled Jun

Both Nishida and Kaeda turned to stare out of the window too, both shocked at what they were seeing.

“Please stop,” Jun heard his mother say, while pushing up her sunglasses, “Nishida, I think I left my sunglasses in the lobby,”

“I’ll go look for them,” replied Nishida obediently, unbuckling his seatbelt and exiting the plane.

Jun looked at his mother, who was smiling. For the first time in many years, Kaeda was back to her usual loving self. Jun thanked her silently, before dashing out of the plane.

“What the hell are you doing, idiot?!” yelled Jun, running up to Nino, “Who asked you to come here,”

“Look who’s talking,” Nino yelled back, “why didn’t you tell me anything?”

Jun looked at Nino who was beginning to shed tears.

“I’m sorry,” replied Jun.

“I…” started Nino, “didn’t tell you something important.

“Something important?”

Nino closed the space between them in a split second and pulled Jun into a big hug, “I love you too…times two,”
