“Papa!” yelped Kaibutsu-kun, dodging yet another blast that was shot at him by none other than his own father.
It was supposed to be the day where he took over his father as the king of Kaibutsu Land, but everything went horribly wrong. Out of the blue, his father announced that he won’t be he won’t be ascending the throne. Instead, his father started zapping bolts of blue lightning at him as though he was on a killing spree.
“Papa! What the heck are you doing?” yelled Kaibutsu-kun, glad that another bolt that was sent his way missed hitting him by a few centimeters. Sadly, nothing he said or do seemed to make the king stop his rampage.
What in the world did he do to earn his father’s wrath? Jumping up and down, hopping left and right, Kaibutsu-kun tried to figure out what was going on, but to no avail.
Distracted, he did not see the nth bolt that was sent his way. Surely enough, the bolt hit him squarely in the chest, engulfing him in a blindingly bright baby blue light. Kaibutsu-kun had no choice but to shut his eyes tight, not wanting to go blind. The next thing he knew, the floor seemed to have disappeared underneath him. Falling, Kaibutsu-kun stretched his hands, desperately trying to find something solid to hold on to.
Nothing.
The next thing he knew, the light started becoming dimmer and dimmer, as though someone had reduced the voltage. In no time at all, his surroundings became pitched black and all of his senses seemed to have shut down…

Yamada Taro slung his bag over his shoulders while pushing in his chair. His day at school was slightly boring as usual, but thinking about his part time job enabled Yamada-kun to get though the day.
This time, he managed to get a part-time job as a cleaner. Surprisingly, this company which hired him was going to pay his double of what he was usually paid, and he didn’t even ask for it. With the extra money, who knew what he could buy for his siblings? An extra milk bread to bring to school? Or maybe he could make them pancakes, something they had been begging him for ever since he could remember.
It didn’t take long for Yamada-kun to get to the office of the company that hired him, mainly because it was just opposite the road from his school. After changing into the company uniform, Yamada-kun got into the front seat of the van as a senior from the company drove him to the site along with the equipment for his duty.
“You sure are brave to dare enter that mansion,” commented his senior, tapping his fingers against the steering wheel, trying to calm himself down, but failing at it.
“Huh?” replied Yamada-kun, clueless as to what his senior was talking about. The red light turned green, allowing them to resume their journey, also giving his senior an excuse to brush Yamada-kun’s question aside, ostensibly to focus on the road, but really to avoid answering Yamada-kun’s question.
Yamada-kun thought that it was just a passing statement, so he decided to ignore it. That was until he van came to a stop. Right in front of a creepy looking mansion.
“Is this the mansion I’m supposed to be cleaning?” asked Yamada-kun timidly, feeling the huge mansion casting a shadow over him. The mansion in front of him was like any other you could find in horror stories: moss and vine growing all over the place, thunderclouds which threatened to strike anyone hover above it, the eerie sound that seem to come from the inside. Overall, it was like a haunted house.
“That’s right,” replied his senior, trying to sound assuring, but also failing at it, “good luck then,” he continued, leaving the cleaning trolley in Yamada-kun’s hands.
“Good luck? Aren’t you coming in with me?” cried Yamada-kun, feeling Goosebumps all over.
“No, I’ll just wait out here,”
Yamada-kun took a deep breath. Think about the milk bread. Think about the pancakes. Think about how happy they would be if he could earn this extra money, Yamada-kun instructed himself, taking the first few steps into the grounds of the mansion.
So good so far.
But this was only the garden, he had a long way to go before he reached the front door. If he wanted to turn back, now’s the time. No, think about the milk bread and the pancakes. Without anything weird happening, unless you count Yamada-kun tripping over a root which he swore wasn’t there before, he made it to the front door.
The keys which were given to him fit into the keyhole without much resistance, allowing Yamada-kun to enter the spine-chilling mansion. He took a few deep breathes before making his way to the living room, where he was instructed to clean first.
Suddenly, the front door slammed shut with so much force that the door frame rattled. Yamada-kun jumped in fright as his grip around the handles of the trolley tightened. It was just the wind. Just a very strong gust of wind, think about the milk bread. Think about the pancakes.
After what seemed like a long journey down an empty corridor, Yamada-kun came to the grand double doors which he was told lead to the living room. Pushing the door open, the random squeak scaring the hell out of him, Yamada-kun pressed his hands over his mouth trying to muffle a scream of shock.
There in the living room, were four people. The one lying on the arm chair was wearing a very peculiar looking coat with the collar sticking up as though he was heavily starched. Another man was beside the first, curling up into a ball of fur. When was the last time that guy shaved? On the sofa, laid a very big man, about the size of a sumo wrestler. There were stitch marks cross his forehead and left cheek, looking like the work of a kindergartener during sewing class.
Last but not least, there was a very small guy dressed in bright sunflower yellow lying on the floor behind the sofa. He was the only person in the room which seemed fairly normal, so Yamada-kun decided to approach him. Yamada-kun shook the man gently, wanting to ask for permission to clean the place. All the managed to do was cause the man to turn over in his sleep.
At the sight of the man’s adorable baby-ish face, Yamada-kun couldn’t help but feel this strange sensation rushing through his body. Not knowing what he was thinking, Yamada-kun slowly reached out his hand and cupped the sleeping man’s face, feeling the soft chubby cheeks in his hand.
Yamada-kun swore he felt his cheeks turn red, but that could be his own body reacting to the cold surroundings. Now that he had thought about it, the room was rather cold and Yamada-kun was shivering as though he had just emerged from a freezer. The body under him felt so warm, and inviting, maybe he could just lean a bit closer…

Kaibutsu-kun furrowed his eyebrows as he felt an excruciating pain in his back. Where was he? Is he still in Kaibutsu Land? No, not possible. Kaibutsu-kun then concluded he was in heaven. It is an irony for a monster to be in heaven, but how do you explain the nice soft hand which was cupping his cheeks?
He opened his eyes, just a fraction, wanting to take in his surroundings. The first thing he saw were a pair of hazel eyes starting at him. Dazzling hazel eyes which shined even in the dark. Kaibutsu-kun felt his heartbeat increase as his body temperature also seemed to have risen. He felt so lucky to have met such a handsome angel.
Wait! Why has the soft hand left his left cheek? Where is his angel going off to? No, come back! Kaibutsu-kun sat up as quickly as he could, but wasn’t fast enough to stop his angel thanks to the pain in his back. But, Kaibutsu-kun was able to catch a glimpse of something white disappearing though a double door.
He will see his angel again. One way or another.
