Chapter 7:

Jun whistled a happy tune to himself as he made his way down the corridor to Ohno’s studio. A while ago, he had managed to convince Sho into a plan that would push Ohno and Ninomiya even further apart, ridding him of one opponent. And he had a bottle of whipped cream in his hands. Could things get any better?

No.

In fact, it got worse. The first thing Jun saw when he flung the door open a little too excitedly, the first thing he saw was Satoshi slouched on the sofa, eating ladleful after ladleful of cha-han directly from the frying pan. Littered all over the floor just at his feet, were the paintings which were supposed to be displayed during Ohno’s next exhibition, every single one of them ripped right through.

“Satoshi…” breathed Jun, too stunned too speak.

Furious yet worried, Jun strode up to Ohno and hauled him off the sofa into a standing position. He shook the delirious Ohno for good measure before letting him go so they could communicate.

“What’s wrong with you?” Jun ‘demanded’ to know.

Ohno simply stared back at him with a pair of sunken eyes. Jun’s heart clenched. He had never seen Ohno look so upset before. Something extremely terrible must have happened for Ohno to act this way.

Seeing that Ohno was not going to talk, Jun gave him a stern look before proceeding to clean up the floor. Just as he was about to pick up the nearest canvas, Jun realized that ruined canvases were not the only thing scattered on the floor, there were strips of paper, which looked like they used to be a magazine, in between all the debris.

Upon closer inspection, Jun realized it was that month’s issues of Myojo, aka, the one with an article about Ninomiya in it.

“Satoshi….” Mumbled Jun, cursing himself for doing something so stupid. He had let his jealousy take control and he had hurt the one he loved so much just because he was selfish.

With the mess piled up in one corner to be cleared later, Jun placed threw the can of whipped cream into the bin and went over to the sofa were Ohno was sitting on like a dead piece of meat.

Taking a huge breathe, Jun gently grabbed Ohno and pulled him into his embrace. The two were on the sofa, Ohno lying on Jun’s shoulder, too sick to move which Jun stroked Ohno’s head.

In a calming atmosphere like this, Ohno slowly drifted off the sleep, dreaming about paint, fishes and of course Nino. Jun closed his eyes, trying his best to enjoy the moment for he knew he would not last.

Jun knew he had to make things right. Without opening his eyes, Jun dug into his pants pocket and drew out his phone. Pressing a few keys here and there, Jun placed the device to his ear.

Sho pounded against Nino’s door furiously, every cell in him willing the door to unlock itself and allow him in.

After Sho’s meeting with Jun, he had returned to the apartment he shared with Nino, wanting to carry out phase two of Jun’s plan. When he first got back, the first thing he would do was to check up on Nino, something he did every single day. Usually, he would find the door wide open with Nino on his bed day dreaming or playing the guitar.

This time however, Nino’s door was close. Sho’s suspicious was aroused and before he knew it, he was at the door, attempting to break it down.

“Nino! Open up!” cried Sho through the door. No answer.

Just as Sho was about to hit his head against the door, an idea popped in his head. How could he be so stupid? Sho ran to his room and took out the keys to Nino’s room. With the key in hand, Sho tried to enter Nino’s room again, this time more successful than the first.

Sho sighed in relief as he saw Nino on his bed, fast asleep. So that was why Nino did not open the door…but why did he lock the door in the first place? Assuming that Nino wanted some privacy, Sho turned around, planning to return to his room, when something caught his eye.

Against Nino’s faded baby blue bed sheet was a small red patch. Small, but big enough for Sho to worry. Without wasting a second, Sho darted up to Nino’s bed to inspect the red patch.

Blood.

Sho froze in fear as possibilities of how Nino got injured ran through his mind. Lifting the blankets as slowly as he could so as to not wake Nino, Sho attempted to look for the source.

He did not have to look long, for the first thing he saw was Nino’s bloodied fingers. Sho looked up to Nino’s face, wanting an indicator of how much pain Nino suffered because of his wounds.

Sho was expecting Nino’s face to be scrunched up, but all he saw was traces of dried tears down the pale skin.

Why would Nino something like this? Sho knew Nino did not like his ‘hamburger hands’, but Sho knew Nino knew they were the only reason tries so hard. Without his hands, Nino would not be able to play the piano or the guitar, and without them, Sho knew Nino had no other reason to live.

Sho ran a hand through his hair. There had to be so way to make Nino his usually happy self again, but what? Sho knew he could not cheer Nino up…but Ohno would.

As if on cue, Sho’s phone started ringing. Seeing the caller ID, Sho was glad Jun had called him. He was stupid enough to agree to all this nonsense, and now is the time to set things right.

“Let’s stop this,” said the both of them at the same time once the line got through. A long pause.

“I’ve been stupid to want to pull the both of the away from each other,” admitted Jun quietly over the phone.

“And I’ve been stupid for agreeing,”

Another lapse of silence.

“I was thinking of setting them up on a date,” added Jun

“Count me in,” replied Sho, stunned at himself for sounding so eager
