An: Been wanting to write this for quite sometime. I perfectly understand if you want to throw stones at me after reading.
Beads of perspiration dripped down his forehead, mixing with the dirt-green blush covering his face. A hand stole out from the overly long sleeves to wipe his face dry, only to be damp once more.
The sun was at its highest point in the sky, glaring down at them with all its might as though they had offended it or something, making it want to scorch each and every one of them until they were soot black.
Nino sighed.
Filming was extremely tiring today for some unknown reason. Clint Eastwood was not pleased with their performance. Many of the props went missing. Some idiot tore his costume. The list could go on.
When he took up the role of ‘Saigo’ in ‘Letters from Iwojima’, Nino had no clue it would be this draining. True, he had to run around lot. True, he had to carry all sorts of heavy army equipment. True, he was under the hot sun almost 24/7. But those weren’t the reasons for his tiredness.
Nino tried to pay attention to what the translator was telling him, but his brain just refused to cooperate. His consciousness was slipping, slipping away from him, slipping back to Japan, back home, home were he knew his family and friends were.
It was months since the last time he saw them. He wondered what they were doing. He wondered what new crazy experiment Aiba was coming up with. He wondered what new fish Ohno had caught. He wondered what new clothes Jun bought.
He wondered if Sho missed him.
Nino position himself in front of the camera under the directions of Clint Eastwood, waiting for the lightning to be adjusted so that he could get this scene over and done with. Through his peripheral vision, Nino caught a glimpse of himself in a mirror. There, on the mirror, was boy who looked like he was in his teens. With an overly large army hat on his head and dressed in baggy army uniform, the boy in the mirror stared back at his with large curious cat like eyes.
Nino shifted his gaze away. The green blush on his face masked his true looks, making him look like someone he barely recognized. It was as if his looks and who he really was didn’t match at all.
But that was the sad life of an actor. Nino was one of the most acknowledged actors back home in Japan. One of the most famous icons. One of the most with thousands of fans.
One of the most whose career would be jeopardized if tabloid magazines could come up with a scandal.
Stupid tabloid magazines enjoy riding on his success, publishing all sorts of random articles about his private life, labeling them as scandals even though the picture was just of him walking with a girl. Even these kind of so called scandals resulted in fingers being pointed at him, loud whispers about his ‘indecent’ act, comments about his ‘inappropriate’ behavior as an idol.
Nino could only imagine what would happen if the magazines knew about his secret crush on Sho.
Yes, Nino was crushing on Sho. Head over heels for the newscaster in fact. How long had Nino been madly in love with Sho, even Nino himself had lost count. It seemed like forever.
Everyday at work, Nino would have to resist the urge to pounce on Sho and spill out his feelings for him. Everyday, he would have to bite the inside of his mouth to prevent himself from killing Aiba when the two are Sakuraiba-ing. Everyday, he would have to mask his feelings.
Being in the entertainment industry, Nino knew how gossips, especially the ones about Johnnys, spread like wildfire. Before anyone could straighten the matter, fans of all ages would be gripping the sides of the magazines, screaming in disbelief that their idol could do something like that. That was the main reason Nino tried so hard to masquerade who he really was.
Maybe this is the reason why he was so tired. He was tired of pretending. Tired of putting up a façade. Tired of hiding who he really was.
Nino felt his mask crack.
It started with a hairline fracture, before splitting further across the entire mask. Soon, crack lines were all over it, just waiting for the final blow before the whole thing shattered to pieces.
Nino closed his eyes, wanting to smash the mask that he had put on for so many years. But sadly, at the cry of ‘action’, all Nino could do was mend the cracks, and used Saigo to cover Ninomiya Kazunari.
