Chapter 5:

Hair in a mess, eyes half closed from not getting enough sleep, drowned in an oversized shirt and pants, yup, Nino looked exactly like a walking zombie.

“Stupid Matsumoto Jun,” hissed Nino as he punched his pillow. Matsumoto Jun, the reason why Nino couldn’t catch any sleep the night before. He had spent the whole night thinking…about why Matsumoto Jun was such a bastard.

Finally getting out of bed, Nino shuffled to the toilet to freshen up, when he spotted something that had been slipped under the door: it was a newspaper. But it wasn’t the newspaper which caught Nino’s attention. It was what was on it.

His eyes widening until it was twice their normal size, Nino dived for the newspaper and held it up. This isn’t good.

On the front page, in a huge font read ‘Mastumoto Jun’s latest boyfriend’. And the best part: there was a picture of the both of them, the one where they were at the bar. Nino could not help but kick himself as he saw the picture - Jun was leaning so close to him, and thanks to the camera angle, it looked like he was sandwiched between Jun and the counter. And thanks to the stupid editor of the newspapers, Jun’s hands which had been reaching for the straw was cropped out, making it look like Jun had his arms around him.

AND WHY DID HE HAVE TO LOOK SO BIMBOTIC?? Nino wanted to kick himself the second time, this time because of his stupid facial expression. If he had looked less bimbo, nobody would have gotten the wrong idea, but thanks to that dreamy look he had on, even the blind would think he was crushing on Jun!

“I knew it!” cried Aiba to moment he entered AMOS’ private area in the hotel’s restaurant. He threw a copy of that day’s newspaper right in front of Jun and triumphantly cried, “I knew you and Nino were going out!”

Jun was so thankful he had swallowed that gulp of coffee. If not, he would have spat the whole thing out in shock as he saw what was on the front page. His mouth hung open as he read the article, The world renowned band, AMOS’ bassist has returned to playing the field after two whole years of being out of action. So, who is it this time? Rumors said that it’s the band’s song writer, Ninomiya Kazunari, and from the looks of it, things are pretty hot between the two…

“Are you seriously dating Nino?” asked Ohno who seemed to have finally woken up from his daydream.

“NO!” yelled Jun rather loudly, “there is no why I’ll date someone like him!”

While Aiba and Jun bicker over the reliability of the newspapers, Sho raised an eyebrow at the smirk on Ohno’s face.

Nino heaved a very deep sigh as he pushed his hands further into his jacket, the night was extremely chilly for some unknown reason, and Nino regretted going out to ‘tour’ the city. That’s what he told everybody, but in actual fact, Nino really wanted to get out to avoid Jun.

The night was dark and the streets were empty, just the way Nino liked. Who knew who would recognize him from the newspaper and start asking him and bunch of questions?

AMOS’ concert was starting in an hour and if he hurried, he would make it to Tokyo Dome before their whole bunch of fans streamed in.

Taking a look to his left and right, Nino sighed once more as he realized there were no taxis available. So making up his mind to walk, Nino turned and stepped onto the pavement to cross the road, when two bright headlines shone straight into his face.

Nino’s eyes widened as he realized what was coming at him: A truck, and it didn’t show any sign of braking. Thanks to his quick reflexes, Nino dodged the speeding truck, and crashed shoulder first into the sidewalk.

Nino got up quickly despite the stinging pain in his shoulder, wanting to give the driver a piece of his mind, when he saw the truck turn around.

And headed straight for him.

Without thinking, Nino turned on his heels and ran as fast as he could, the only on his mind was ‘what the fuck’. The driver wanted to kill him. Very badly too.

It was really impossible for a human to outrun a vehicle, and in no time at all, the truck was on Nino’s heels. Making a mad dive to his left, Nino barely managed to make it out of the truck’s path. His head spinning for having collided into a roadside trash bin, Nino felt super nauseous just trying to stand up, and he would have laid there on the ground for quite some time if someone hadn’t pulled him to his feet.

“Nino?” asked the voice.

Nino squinted. Brown eyes. Sharp nose. Curly hair.

His senses turned back to normal in the blink of an eye the moment he realized whose arms he was in.

“Let go of me!” cried Nino, pushing himself away from Jun.

“How can I, seeing that you can barely stand on your own,” replied Jun curtly, refusing to let Nino go, “Why were you lying on the roadside?”

“Some stupid guy tried to run me over. Twice!” yelled Nino, finally managing to free himself from Jun. But he half regretted doing so as his head started spinning, and he had to lean onto the wall for support.

Jun desperately wanted to tell Nino he told him so, but stopped when he realized what Nino had said.

“What guy tried to run you over?” asked Jun worriedly, “Are you sure it wasn’t a drunkard?”

“It can’t be a drunkard,” snapped Nino, “he wouldn’t have enough sense to turn a truck around!”

Jun bit his tongue, annoyed that he couldn’t think of anything sarcastic to say, but he stopped short when he saw a bleeding wound on Nino’s shoulder through his ripped shirt.

“Nino, you shoulder…” Jun trailed off. Without wasting time, Jun grabbed the latter and pulled him in the direction of their hotel, Nino protesting all the way.

Once in Jun’s room, Jun made Nino sit on his bed while he went to get a first-aid kit.

“Take off your shirt,” ordered Jun, rummaging around in the first-aid kit, looking for the disinfectant.

“What?!” shrieked Nino, his pitch several octaves higher.

Jun blushed as he realized the other implication of his sentence. Quickly un-reddening his face, Jun turned around, “the cut on your back is pretty bad, if you don’t have it treated soon, it’ll get infected. Besides, you saw me topless before, it is only fair…”

Nino hid his face from Jun’s view as he pulled his torn shirt over his head, telling himself that easing the pain in his shoulder was worth being topless in front of Jun.

Gently, Jun got onto the bed, and as tenderly as he could, disinfected Nino’s cut, ignoring all the curses that came out of Nino’s mouth as he did so. With the wound disinfected, Jun got out some bandages ready to bandage up Nino’s shoulder.

“Hold still,” hissed Jun, pulling the roll under Nino’s left arm and across his chest to his right.

“How can I hold still with you breathing down my neck?” snapped Nino, his face the colour of a tomato as he realized where Jun’s hands were, right under his arms on either sides of his body.

And to make the matters worse, Jun just had to breathe out near a ticklish spot on Nino’s neck, making the shorter man squirm and lean forward to avoid Jun breathing down his neck. But with the bandage that was wrapped around Nino in Jun’s hands, the taller man could not help but be pulled forward.

Nino really wished somebody would be kind enough to kill him. Being sandwiched between the bed and Jun was a position Nino didn’t want to be in. Firstly because he was shirtless with Jun lying on top of him, and secondly, Aiba just HAD to burst into the room at that time, of all times.

With a stupid grin on his face, Aiba pointed at the pair in the very compromising position, and yelled, “I KNEW IT!!”
