Part 1:

Beads of perspiration dripped down his already sweaty forehead as he increased his speed, wanting to cover a wider area. To say that his was panicking would be an understatement, he was hysterical.

His legs were completely worn out from exhaustion, and he would have collapsed if it weren’t for his determined mind. He had only turned his back for a split second, just a split second, and Satoru had disappeared. The first thing he did was run off from the Takoyaki store, completely forgetting to collect his order, in a desperate attempt to look for his son. But the festival ground was huge! And the sea of people didn’t help, if not made the situation worse.

Sho bit his lips. What kind of parent is he? He had let his one and only son go missing! That boy was only four years old, anything can happen to him! Before horrible thoughts of what could happen to his son started flooding his head, Sho took off once more in the direction of the games booth, praying like mad that he would find his son there.

Meanwhile, Sakurai Satoru wandered around in the crowds, wondering why his father had suddenly disappeared from the Takoyaki store. He had only went to have a closer look at a booth where kids were fishing for goldfishes, and that booth wasn’t that far away from the Takoyaki booth. But the four year old kid didn’t feel the least bit afraid. Even though he was separated from his father, he felt he was strong enough to protect himself. If he walked around some more, he would eventually find otou-san.

Satoru continued his journey, gaping at the kinds of things that some booths sold, while staring longingly at the delicious looking food that other booths had to offer. Being a little kid with a high curiosity level, Satoru wandered from booths to booths, until his saw a figure standing under a tree.

The more Satoru looked at the figure, the more sure he was. The figure was standing under a Sakura tree and was in a light blue kimono. The figure had a head of silky soft black hair and dazzling hazel eyes.

Satoru was certain.

With the biggest smile ever, Satoru ran up to the figure and hugged the person’s legs, “Mommy!”

“Hi there,” said the person, greeting him with a voice so melodious that it sounded as if it belonged to an angel.

“Mommy, I finally found you,” continued Satoru, hugging the person’s legs even tighter, not wanting to let go incase the person disappeared from him.

“Mommy? I’m sorry, but I’m not your mother. Are you lost?” the person asked kindly.

Satoru shook his head vigorously. He looked up and continued to stare at the person. That person was simply beautiful, the most gorgeous person he had seen in his entire life. He was sure this was his mother, his long lost mother. His father had told him that his mother was the most beautiful person in the whole world, and there, in front of him, was the most beautiful person.

“Nino? Who’s this?” asked another man, appearing in front of his mommy. The other man had sandy brown spiky hair with sleepy looking eyes. He was handsome, but not as pretty as his mommy.

“Oh-chan,” his mommy replied, “this boy mistook me for his mother,”

The man named ‘Oh-chan’ looked at him, “he has your eyes, maybe he is your son,”

“Oh-chan!” his mommy pouted, smacking the other guy lightly on the head, before picking Satoru up.

“Mommy, I wanna go home,” yawned Satoru, burring his head into the crook of his mommy’s neck.

Nino gave the kid in his arms an amused look, and was about to carry him to the nearest police station when he can find his real parents, when someone came running his way.

“Satoru!”

The boy in his arms looked towards the man that was calling him and smiled widely, “Daddy!”

The man, Satoru’s father, reached them within seconds and was catching his breath while leaning against the tree. In between labored pants, he asked, “Satoru, where were you?”

“I was at the goldfish booth. But look, I found mommy!”

“What?!” the man’s eyes widen in shock as he heard what his son had said. His wife had died four years ago after losing too much blood while giving birth to Satoru. There was no way Satoru could have found his mother, he didn’t even know what she looked like!

Tearing his eyes away from the ground after his breathing finally returned to normal, Sho looked up to see the person his son claimed to be his mother.

“Nino?”

“Sho?”

Nino couldn’t believe his eyes. After going their separate ways, after all these years, he finally had the chance to see Sho again. He looked at the boy in his arms, “Is this your son?”

“Yes,”

Subconsciously, Nino lowered his gaze to the ground. He felt a sting in his heart as he realized Sho now had a son.

“Daddy, let’s go home with mommy,” yawned Satoru. After a long day at the festival, and walking around looking for his father, Satoru was completely drained. Sho reached out and took his son from Nino’s arms, “Satoru, this isn’t your mother. He’s Nino, my friend from school,”

“No!” cried the little boy, looking as if he was going to burst into tears, “I want mommy!”

Creases started appearing on Sho’s forehead, “Nino, could you…could you accompany us home?”

All it took was one look from Satoru to make Nino’s heart melt. Ohno gave him a nod of approval, and nudged him towards Sho. Ohno knew that they had feeling for each other even since their school days. But those two idiots were too stubborn to admit it.

Bidding Ohno farewell, Nino went off with Sho and his son. Throughout the car ride, both adults maintained silence while Satoru was fast asleep in Nino’s arms. Sho stole a glance at the pair while they were at a red light. Satoru had a big smile on his face as he slept against Nino’s shoulder, while Nino was stroking the boy’s hair in such an affectionate way.

The trio arrived at the Sakurai Mansion too soon for Sho’s liking. As he guided Nino to Satoru’s room, Sho could not help but think about how things would have turned out if he actually had the courage to confess to Nino during their school days. Things would have been very different, wouldn’t it?

Leaning against the wall, Sho watched as Nino gently placed Satoru on his bed, and was about to leave when the kid tugged his arm.

“Can mommy sleep with me tonight?” Satoru asked in a sleepy voice. Sho could not love his son anymore.

Nino turned to look at Sho, “What should I do?” he mouthed.

“Please stay,” Sho mouthed back.

Nino paused and deliberated on his options. But eventually, he nodded and climbed into bed with Satoru.

“Can daddy sleep with me too?”

Sho smiled down at his son, thanking heavens for giving him such a son. Ruffling Satoru’s hair, Sho climbed onto the other side of the bed, glad that nobody would see his red face in the dark.

Satoru was asleep within seconds, but both adults were wide awake. Even though the room was pitch black, Sho could still see Nino’s dazzling eyes staring at him. It was then when Sho decided he had waited long enough. Inch by inch, Sho’s hand moved towards Nino’s hand which was draped over Satoru stomach, and before they knew it, Nino’s hands were in Sho’s.

He saw Nino’s eyes widen in shock at his touch, but soon softened. Nino shifted till he was pressed closely to Satoru’s side, while Sho did the same on the other side.

If only time would stop.
