If anything could be measured in time, it would take about thirty seconds for him to comprehend what’s going on, thirty minutes for him to learn a dance, thirty hours to catch a tuna, thirty days to film a drama series…
But thirty years is no joke.
It all started the day he cleared his audition, and was asked to join Johnny’s Entertainment. He couldn’t really decide if he should join or not, but his mother said he should, so that’s what he did.
In 1999, he was asked to debut with four other boys who he couldn’t match a name to the face, but nonetheless, they boarded that plane to Hawaii, and there was no turning back.
That was how he got himself into this mess he’s currently in.
All he wanted was to get up sleep after a long tiring day of filming. All he wanted was to snuggle up on the couch, preferably with a certain gamer, and just drift off. But no! The rest of them just had to send him on some stupid errand. Why in the world did he have to do their dirty work for them? Couldn’t they get a staff?
Nevertheless, Ohno went. The first thing on the list was to head off to Coffee Bean and Tea Leaves to get a nice refreshing cup of coffee for Sho, since he didn’t have time to do so that morning and his body was screaming for some caffeine. Being the nice leader that he is, Ohno went down to the nearest outlet and got Sho his darn coffee and a nice big chocolate chip cookie since he thought Sho might want one. When he got to the NEWS ZERO studio, they were in the middle of an intermission, and Ohno headed over with that nice cup of steaming coffee.
“Ohno-kun,” waved Sho, “thanks for the coffee,”
Ohno gave his band mate a small smile. One down, three to go.
“Oh, Ohno-kun, can you help me pass this to Aiba?” asked Sho, handing Ohno a rather odd shaped fancy looking bag, “I would go myself, but I’m in the middle of filming,”
So, being the nice guy that he is, Ohno half-reluctantly accepted and he was off again. The next thing he was tasked to do was to buy bananas for Aiba’s TSD filming. The group’s tallest member was supposed to be interacting with primates for an episode of TSD, and for some unknown reason, the staff forgot the bananas.
Ohno exited the supermarket with a bunch of bananas in hand, and the awfully bulky bag in the other. If he hurried, he could catch the train headed to the place where Aiba had his location shoot. And catch the train he did. In about twenty minutes, Ohno reached the site, and spotted the honey-haired man in no time at all.
“Here’s the bananas,” said Ohno, holding up the fruit, “and Sho wanted me to pass this to you,”
“Thanks, Leader,” beamed Aiba, receiving the yellow fruit, “but those aren’t for me, they’re supposed to be for Nino,”
“Oh,” Ohno sighed. Oh well, he would be seeing Nino later anyway.
“Can you help me pass this to Nino while you’re at it?” asked Aiba, handing him a boxy paper bag that came out from nowhere, “I’m kinda busy with filming and everything,”
As Ohno was a really nice person, he agreed, and was now headed off to Zojoji temple where Nino was promoting his movie, but not before stopping at a game store to buy the new game for Nino.
With the new Mario game safely in his bag, and the two weird bags, Ohno made his way to the temple, wondering how he landed himself into that.
“Oh-chan! You’re here!” greeted Nino, running up to him, “Did you get my game?”
Ohno nodded, and produced the newly purchased game.
“Thanks, Oh-chan! You’re the best!” cried Nino, flinging his arms around his leader’s neck.
“These are for you too,” said Ohno, pushing the two bags from Sho and Aiba into Nino’s hands.
“Oh no, those aren’t for me,” said Nino, “They’re for MatsuJun. Oh, and while you’re delivering those to him, can you help me pass this to him as well?”
Nino fluttered his lashes and gave him an adorable smile as he placed yet another weird looking parcel in his hands, so how could Ohno refuse?
With another odd bag in his hands, Ohno went to find the diva, but not before looking for a particular hat the youngest member wanted. Being weighed down by three heavy bags, Ohno took quite some time to find what he was looking for, but he still managed to get them.
Ohno reached the studio where Jun was filming NatsuNiji much later than he thought he would, mainly because of those three peculiar bags.
“Leader!” Jun waved to him.
Completely exhausted, Ohno passed the nicely wrapped hat to Jun, together with the three bags, “these are for you, from the other three,” he managed to say between pants.
“Are you sure they’re for me?” asked Jun, a quizzical look on his face, “I’m pretty sure they’re for Sho-chan,”
Ohno tried not to let out a groan. Why would Sho pass him a bag that was meant for him? Ohno was starting to get suspicious.
“I think he’s at our greenroom now,” informed Jun, “and on your way, could you help me pass this to him,”
Jun handed him the fourth weird bag for the day, and Ohno was starting to regret agreeing. Still, he went off without a word.
He arrived at their greenroom not too long later, completely drained from travelling to four different places, and carrying those heavy bags. Finally, he could dump the stuff to Sho, and get some decent sleep.
Ohno opened the door with much difficulty, but when he did, he had the shock of his life.
“Happy birthday!” cried four voices as streamers started falling from the ceiling.
It took Ohno forever to remember that it was his birthday.
Laughing at his dazed look, Nino and Aiba went over to pull him to the centre of the room, and sat him onto the couch.
“Open your presents!” they cried at the same time.
Ohno looked around the room. What were they talking about? There weren’t any presents in the room. Seeing the confused looked on Ohno, Nino poked the four bags in Ohno’s hands. It was then when he understood what was going on.
In the first bag which Sho had given him, was a fishing rod, the exact one he wanted. Giving the caster a big smile and a thank you, Ohno went to the second bag by Aiba. The boxy-ness of the bag actually came from the corners of five new canvases and a box of paints. Ohno grinned at the taller man. The third box had a set of lures in it, making Ohno smile as if he was the happiest man on earth. He gave the gamer a big hug. The last bag was from Jun, and in it were several packets of clay, earning the youngest member a big thank you.
If anything could be measured in time, it would take about thirty seconds for him to comprehend what’s going on, thirty minutes for him to learn a dance, thirty hours to catch a tuna, thirty days to film a drama series, but it takes thirty years together with a sprinkle of Sho, a dash of Aiba, a pinch of Nino, a speck of Jun, and a whole truck load of member-ai to make an Ohno Satoshi.
