Title: Another world

Author: Masuhisa

Pairing: Ohmiya

Summary: Ninomiya Kazunari, son of a famous business man, was caught in a storm and his ship capsized. He was saved by an unknown person and Nino has made up his mind to sail the seven seas to look for that person.

Disclaimer: Don’t own.

Ninomiya Kazunari clutched his aching stomach, willing himself not to throw up. His grip was weak against the well-polished wooden railings as cold rain came falling from the skies at the speed of light, making his grip all the more weaker.

His men were frantically running around the deck, trying to prevent the ship from capsizing with their precious cargo, but Nino hadn’t had the strength to help them. Lightning flashed across the sky making the night seem even more creepy that it already was, and a loud clap of thunder shook Nino to the bones.

Nobody had anticipated that a storm was coming, hence the ship wasn’t equipped with the necessary gear to overcome the storm. Nino felt as if his stomach had a tempest of its own, as he felt his partially digested food rise up his throat. Not wanting to puke all over his brand new vessel, which he paid good money for, Nino rushed to the sides and leaned over.

No sooner had he got there, everything came spilling out of his mouth, his nose wrinkling in disgust. He was starting to feel slightly better now that his stomach was more or less fine, but it just wasn’t his day. Before Nino could seek shelter, a huge wave the same size as his ship crashed against the side of the vessel, sending most of his men toppling over, while sending him over the railing, into the deep, dark and deadly cold sea.

Nino couldn’t remember what happened after that, but he knew the freezing salt water managed to jolt him to his senses and his legs started kicking, propelling himself to the surface. But that was all his worn body could do to keep him alive.

Exhausted to the point of fainting, Nino tried to best to remain afloat, but his ship was starting to look rather blurry to him, soon, he could only see a vague outline of the mast and the next thing he knew, water came rushing into his lungs when he tried to breathe as he sank deeper and deeper into the watery abyss.

Ohno Satoshi stood by the edge of his kingdom, actually, it was his father’s kingdom, but nonetheless his. He had been so tempted by the world outside their territory, but never had the chance to leave as he heard about all the horrors of the world out there - something about a creature who looked like them, but had to stick like things instead of tails.

How Ohno wished he could leave the grounds, but he knew he would get a huge scolding from his father, that’s if he even makes it back in one piece. Sighing, Ohno turned back, knowing it was time for tea, and his butler would be frantically looking for him.

As he was about to turn back and return to the castle, Ohno’s sharp eyes caught something white against the bluish-green sea. Even though Ohno knew he was late, he could not bare to see the poor creature all alone in the forbidden territory.

Plucking up his courage, Ohno put his tail across the border. When nothing strange occurred, Ohno swam past the imaginary line. Ohno was so excited at the fact that it was his first time being completely on the other side of the boundary line that he nearly forgot why he was out there in the first place.

Calming himself down, Ohno slowly approached the white object, which turns out to be a baby *hippocampus, separated from the rest of its herd. Ohno, being the prince of the great Atlantis, was able to communicate with all sorts of marine creatures, so in an assuring voice, Ohno told the frightened creature that he meant no harm and was only trying to help. Once he got close enough, Ohno reached out to stroke its mane, asking it if it knew where the rest of the herd was.

The hippocampus neighed back, saying that its herd thought it was capture by the funny creatures that looked like merman but had no tails, and was at the surface conjuring a storm, trying to destroy their huge contraption made out of wood.

Ohno nodded. Still in a gentle voice, Ohno offered to escort it to the surface. So with his hand holding on to its white mane, Ohno and the hippocampus swam as fast as they could to the surface, hoping that there will get there before the adults hadn’t obliterate the wooden device, Ohno didn’t want another one of those sinking into his land and his men having to clear it up.

The two managed to get to the surface in record time. The moment they were there, the lost hippocampus immediately went to reunite with his family. Thankfully, the adults’ attention was diverted away from destroying the wooden contraption and the storm quelled in the blink of an eye.

Feeling extremely noble for helping a fellow sea creature, Ohno puffed his chest and was about to return to the castle for tea when his sharp eyes spotted yet another creature in a calamity. From the soot black hair and slender arms, Ohno thought it was a fellow merman, out to explore the other world and swam over, wanting to return home with some company.

But when he got there, Ohno noticed that the creature which he thought was a merman didn’t have a tail. He froze in shock. Could it be one of those creatures he heard about in stories? Ohno wanted to swim away, knowing how dangerous theses creatures could be. But he hesitated. Ohno knew that those creatures could not live in the water like he could, unless they had some yellow tube on their backs, which this one clearly haven’t.

So being a nice merman that he is, Ohno decided to bring it back to land. Cautiously, Ohno approached it and when he decided that it wasn’t going to harm him, took its arm and draped it around his shoulder. Swishing his tail, Ohno swam towards land, surprised at the weight of the creature.

Land wasn’t that far, but swimming against the current, Ohno only got there after a lot of swimming and cursing. He knew he missed tea and was probably going to get scolded and sent to bed without dinner, but Ohno felt contented with being able to get so close to a mystical creature like the one in front of him, and coming to the borders of a different world.

Lost in thoughts, Ohno didn’t notice the figure under him stir. He was busy staring at the tall boxes that were slightly behind the frontier. They were like the houses he had at home, but they weren’t made of corals, interesting, very interesting indeed. He had to return home and tell Sho all about it. His brainy friend would no doubt give him a lecture for venturing into the unknown areas, but he knew Sho would be delighted to know that those mythical creatures do exist.

Suddenly, something grabbed his arm, making him yelp at a voice several pitch higher than his usual one.

“Who…who are you?” mumbled the creature, his eyes blinking, but still looking at him. The creature being able to speak his language creep Ohno out so badly that he pushed himself back into the sea and swam for all his was worth.

“Masaki, are you sure?”

“Yes, Nino,”

“Are you absolutely sure?”

“I’m absolutely sure,”

“A hundred percent sure?!”

“Yes, Nino, there is no mistake about it!”

Nino slumped into his armchair, disappointment washing all over him. It had been two days since he fell into the sea and was supposed to drown, but he woke up and found himself lying on the beach where his butler cum best friend, Aiba Masaki, found him. At first, he thought that he had been washed ashore, but after thinking about it, he had been really far from land and the currents were in the opposite direction.

“I’m sorry for yelling at you, Masaki,” apologised Nino, “I was just really anxious to know who that man was,”

“I understand,” replied Aiba with an encouraging smile on his face, “Maybe he isn’t from this town, I could always check the neighbouring towns,”

“Thanks, Masaki,” sighed Nino, sinking himself further into the armchair. It had been two days, but Nino has yet to figure out who was that man at the beach who he assumed rescued him. He had combed every inch of the town, but he still couldn’t find anyone with sleepy eyes and spiky golden-brown hair.

“Don’t worry, Nino!” said his friend encouragingly, “We’ll find him. In the mean time, why don’t we head down to the newly opened marine museum? I heard there will be a presentation about mythical sea creatures by a professor,”

“Masaki, do you really believe that mermaids and such really exist?” chided Nino, but nevertheless, the bored Nino went with his friend.

Being the son of a rich and famous businessman, Nino was offered a front row seat where he had the perfect, unobstructed view of the professor’s slides.

“Mermaids!” began Professor Imai Tsubasa rather dramatically, “are they real or not?”

He cleared his throat and flipped to the next slide, “I have spent twenty years travelling round the world, looking for evidence of the existence of such creatures, and my friends, today, I present to you…”

The slide changed to show a blurred picture of a figure with a human body and a fish tail.

“Evidence that mermaids do exist,”

The crowd began to murmur amongst themselves, some doubting that the evidence was real since Professor Imai has proven himself to be somewhat mentally unstable.

Nino wanted to roll his eyes and walk off. Telling Masaki that the whole talk was stupid and they should get going, Nino got up from his seat. He took a few steps before realizing his friend wasn’t following him.

“Masaki?” Nino turned and saw Aiba with his eyes fixed on the screen, staring at it so intently, “Masaki, let’s go,”

Aiba still didn’t move. Instead, he raised a shaking hand and pointed at the screen, “he has golden-brown hair and sleepy looking eyes,”

Not believing what his friend said, Nino turned to look at the screen for himself. He got the shock of his life. Even though the picture was blurred, it looked exactly like the person he saw on the beach.

*hippocampus - a creature with a horse body and a fish tail, if i remeber correctly, they are the ones who create waves

Note: Here it is, a new fic of mine! I think this is the second Ohmiya fic that i'm doing, so if it's un-Ohmiya-ey, don't kill ok? This is probably going to be the typical 'the little mermaid' kind of story, but i think i'll add a bit of drama in. Please let me know what you think of this ^^
