Up The Slide

Everytime I take Damian to the park or some type of playground I'm always confused by the other parents there for one reason.  Everytime their children try to climb up the slide, even the smallest slide there, the child is told no and told to go down the slide instead.  Now, I can understand this if there's someone wanting to go down the slide at ( Read more... )

I'm definitely with you here. And I'd encourage you to ask those parents why, and defend your stance to them. Because seriously... kids should be kids at a playground. As long as they're still learning how to share, there's no reason not to allow shrieking and climbing up slides and conquering houses and doing whatever else. It's imagination- they've got to be allowed to develop it! I didn't really have playgrounds growing up in this sense, I had a whole forest, and ponds and a creek and giant hills. And I loved pretending I was a horse or a unicorn and together with my friend Lindsay, and sometimes Jennifer, we'd go gallivanting all around the forest. Or me and my brothers would play all over the place. We had names for the different areas of the forest, and we'd have games, and there was a No-man's Land where the trees were sparse and lichens grew all over the different rocks, right before this beautiful little meadow. It was the best upbringing ever, because we got to use our imaginations and our parents only ever cared that we got ( ... )
