Never mind - I made the horrible mistake of installing updates. So now I am back to square one, with nothing working. So I am going back to my room to pick up my computer, then back to the library to type in all its numbers to the Acer website to beg for the wipe-everything-and-start-over CD, which did not come with the computer ( Read more... )

Windows 7 is better than a half-functioning Ububtu.

I recommend either a dual boot or using VirtualBox to try out many different distros first. Ubuntu is such a mess... its only appeal is newbie-friendliness when it works.

While you're waiting for that, you could check if Linux Mint works better. It's like Ubuntu, except that they have no problem with including proprietary software (read: drivers that actually work) with their distro.
