Berwald grinned down at Tino and leaned over to nuzzle his cheek. "I am so marrying you tonight and we'll just keep that plate in a safe place. Cause your Pappa and Mamma would kill me if I registered that plate. Your Mummi would castrate me for sure." Berwald laughed urging Tino to give him a kiss and a quickie cuddle of affection while everyone else gaped at the Dane posturing like a peacock.
"I completely understand." He cooed, giving into the cuddling and giving his boyfriend that kiss... he looked like a starved mastiff dog when he wanted Tino's affection. "And they would. 'How dare you steal him away and not let the rest of the family share in the moment!' And then my mother would stab you with a fork or something." He smiled and nuzzled back. He didn't mind. After this he could say that they had been spiritually married. The legal marriage was still planned for after graduation. They had to behave.
"This is just for you and I, no more living in sin as they say." Berwald teased. "I've been married to you in my heart the minute you put my ring on your finger as far as I'm concerned." He added rubbing his thumb over the ring resting on Tino's hand.
"Mathias has candy sucker ring-pops for everyone to exchange. He's a lunatic."
"He is absolutely nuts. GOD If only he was my real cousin or something." Tino chortled. Mads could be an asshole, but he did love the big Danish lug.
"And yes, strawberry is my favorite." This was going to be so much fun he could barely contain himself. OH why did he have to wait so long? He was certainly going to have Eduard be his 'Dude of Honor' as Mads called it.
"Piss off, danskie! You're not getting anywhere near my perfect ass." Gilbert called out in response, only distracted for the breifest of moment from his new favourite activity of "molest the Eesti". Eduard was flustered and embarrassed to be behaving in such a way in front of everybody and was continually smacking Gilbert's hands away and shuffling out of the way of incoming gropes with a grin pulling at the corners of his mouth despite how red the rest of his face was. None of it deterred the albino, who just cackled mischeivously and kept right on going.
"Let's bust out the bubbly and get this show on the fucking road!" Gilbert crowed as he finally caught hold of Eduard, squishing the blond's arms to his sides in a semi-bear hug and resting his chin on the top of his head.
"Gilbert, stop it!" Eduard muttered, trying to swat pale, roaming hands away from his body. He, unlike a certain albino he knew, was actually trying to pay attention to what Mads was saying.
"Ummm...for lack of proper fireworks for everyone's big nights, I have a pack of mentos in my pocket if we have diet coke in the fridge. A demonstration of nucleation might be nice to celebrate." He raised his hand and offered, not expecting to include himself in the festivities in any other capacity until he found himself squashed by pale arms like a wurst in too tight of a wrapper.
"He's lying." Gilbert laughed loud enough for people to hear, sneaking a hand into each of the front pockets of Eduard's shorts. "That's not a packet of Mentos in his pocket. I'm just that awesome." He managed to 'kesesesesese' before Eduard was able to wriggle out of his grasp and hide somewhere on the other side of Tino and Berwald.
Oh he was SO going to take advantage of the night's festivities...
After speaking with Toris for a little while and after finally meeting Feliks, Eduard made his way over to the stairs and sat down, leaning back with a tired sigh. A few seconds later he felt a slight warmth settle down next to him letting him know that Gilbert had indeed followed him and not stayed behind to harrass his friends.
"It really is a feat to try and keep up with you, Gilbert Beilschmidt, and I've only been doing this for a couple of hours. I don't know how your family does it."
'Marriage...? What is UP with this?! First my father, now Mads? Fate are you TRYING to give me a hint, here?! I can't...marriage is just...' Matthew's thoughts slowly ground to a halt.
He looked at Lars, trying to read his expression and found a strange look in his eyes...one he couldn't actually read, and he worried his lip.
"Lars?" He took his boyfriend's hand and gently squeezed. "You know jet skiing and swimming sound fun." He smiled, and dragging Lars back away from the crowd to find a place to sit for the ride back to the sandbar.
Lars didn't know what to make of the situation. Part of his heart leapt at the idea--wasn't this exactly what he had been wanting since Christmas? But he also knew that he couldn't take something like marriage so blithely. His mind raced with what to do, questioning exactly how seriously to take everything.
Lars blinked and turned his head toward Matt, trying to collect his thoughts.
"Uh, sure. Jet skiing."
He let Matthew lead them away, his gaze internal. His boyfriend had seen the worst of what could happen in a marriage and Lars didn't dare risk making light of it.
What if he doesn't ever want to be married? The idea sent ice through his veins. With all that he and Alfred had seen and the way Matt reacted now, it was a very real possibility...
He gripped Matthew's hand and held on, feeling as though the boat had begun tipping over.
Matthew took a deep breath and stared out over the ocean.
'Marriage...God what does that even mean?'
'It means families torn apart because the parents can no longer get along. It means pain and suffering and it can only end in divorce.'
Matthew swallowed. Did he really believe that? Did he even believe that could happen between him and Lars? Truth be told Matthew didn't even know WHY his parents got divorced. Why they started arguing, or where their troubles even began. He only knew that their fights got louder and longer and they became more and more angry at each other.
Matthew chanced a glance back at his boyfriend and noticed there seemed to be some sort of turmoil behind his eyes.
A thought entered Matthew's mind, small...and causing just a bit of hope to blossom in his chest.
'Lars has loving parents...and they're still together. You could SEE how much they loved each other even through the computer screen. I want that kind of love with Lars.'Matthew bit his lip for a moment, then clicked his tongue ring against his teeth

Lars could barely breathe, so speaking seemed rather impossible for the moment. He swallowed and joined Matt's gaze out toward the sea until he found his voice again.
"I think that it's… it takes work. A lot more than a paper plate," he tried in vain to give an easy chuckle, but it came out more of a croak and quickly stifled cough. "I think… I think love isn't always easy and sometimes people just aren't compatible." He squeezed Matt's hand, feeling as though he were walking on eggshells.
"But I also think--no, I know that it can last. People change and grow, but that doesn't mean they have to grow apart
( ... )
Toris chuckled and shook his head. Paper plate marriage licenses? Really? He saw Eduard duck behind Berwald and Tino and gave Feliks' side a light squeeze. He kissed him on the cheek and told him he'd be right back, then made his way over to his friend.
"Eduard, you okay? What's up between you and Gilbert? I saw you two in the same bunk this morning when Feliks and I got up, are you two...?"
"Oh, hey Toris." Eduard straightened his glasses and smoothed out the front of his swimming shorts, a hint of the redness on his face beginning to flare up again. "Oh goodness no! Nothing has happened yet if that is what you're getting at. I mean...it kind of half happened, and..."
Eduard shuffled a bit, glancing over to Gilbert who gave him a grin which made his cheeks flare up before he turned back to Toris. "Beleive it or not, he asked me out this morning. Seriously. And I, uhh...I said yes."
Toris raised an eyebrow. "It...half...?" He shook his head and smiled. "Gilbert asked you out? Seriously as in steady?"
It was hard to imagine Gilbert of all people going steady with anyone, considering the reputation he had around the school. But Toris certainly wasn't one to judge, and people could always change.
He leaned in closer and asked quietly, "Is that why he can't seem to keep his hands off of you?"
Uh oh...he hadn't meant to let the tidbit that Gilbert had gone down on him the night before slip out. How on earth was he supposed to explain something like that to one of his friends?
Awkward explanation ABORT. ABORT NOW!
"Yeah, I was as surprised as you are about the whole thing. Believe it or not, he's actually a nice guy. I have no idea how to deal with actually having a boyfriend now though." Eduard definitely knew where Toris was coming from with not being able to imagine gilbert going steady with anyone. Hell, he was having a hard enough time believing things himself and he was right in the middle of it all. He liked him though, and that's all he needed to know.
"Speaking of boyfriends, is that Feliks over there?I saw his arm hanging over the edge of the bunk when we got into the cabin last night, but this is the first I've gotten to see of the rest of him. You seem happy, Toris. Good job."
Alfred's eyes widened in surprise... A wedding? Tonight?? He looked around at all of the other couples... Well, everybody seemed to be taking this all pretty lightly. And with good reason... paper plate marriage licenses, no real rings... and MADS of all people would be performing the ceremony! He had to laugh at that...
This wasn't going to be a big deal! It wasn't official, so there was nothing to be nervous about... So he might as well just have a little fun with it... Turning to Kiku, he got down on one knee, a huge grin on his face. "So, Kiku... Will you pretend marry me tonight?" he asked.
'Marriage?' Kiku initially thought once he had heard the announcement then, finding the matter absurd, strange even, especially coming from the Dane of all people at that moment. After all, he couldn't help but think so since back in Japan, the whole purpose of marrying in the first place was not for love but for children as it was of course essentially the Japanese male's duty to create a heir to the family line and... as far as he can see then..., all of them here are far from capable of carrying a child in their otherwise male bodies. He sighed; so, he didn't really see the whole point of
