Thicker than Water

The argument had been muffled by the hut-door for some time yet. “Slipp på meg!” The door was wrenched open with an emotive shriek, carrying through the air with the sharpness of a mother eagle’s call at seeing a predator inspecting her nest. “La gå!” Struggling, grunting, fumbling.

“Siguard, stop det! Du kan ikke gøre det! Kom tilbage her!” Danish ( Read more... )

Berwald thought a moment before replying as he was wont to do, to really digest the information first. If you knew Berwald and his very subtle yet distinctive facial expressions, the deeper scowl meant the wheels were rapidly turning in his head. He held up a hand, gesturing Mathias to follow him back into the hut before he spoke. He needed all four of them to hear him out ( ... )

"I left. I left my brother in the hands... of that maniac. And... and I knew she was one... why did I do that?" He looked just absolutely destroyed. "I'm supposed to protect him. I've always protected him. How could I fail so badly as to leave him with someone who is starving him and berating him and... why did I ever leave him there?" It wasn't clear if he was asking anyone or asking himself. What they were looking at now was not the Siguard they were most used to. All his shields were broken under the weight of her perceived failure. This wasn't Siguard Thomassen, almost 18 years old. This was a boy from long ago in Siguard's life, the boy who didn't understand why his parents pulled him apart from his brother, only serving to strengthen their codependency. This was a boy who didn't understand why his mother controlled his body or when and what he ate and berated him or punished him for eating off of her strict diet plan. He was a controlled child, and he never understood why he'd needed to be controlled by his mother. He was a ( ... )

"No, i don't think pickax is the answer nej." Berwald said enveloping both Tino and Siguard in his embrace. Nodding subtly to Mads to complete this encasing of comfort around their loved one. To Tino and Berwald a beloved brother, to Mads, his everything. Siguard needed to finally feel and KNOW he was not alone and he would never, ever be alone again. He had people who were not going to play tug of war with his emotions and psyche. Who were going to do the same in the fight to regain Erik ( ... )

Mads didn't need a second invitation. While Berwald loomed over them and held them from above, Mads dove low and scooped them both up until he had a smaller family member on each shoulder. He buried his nose in the space between Siguard and Tino's heads ( ... )

"Lumber too. That shed is really on it's last legs. We're going to either have to shore up everything or just build new from scratch. Either way I want to make a nice display case in there for all of Tino's Grandpa's old tools. Those sounded awfully sentimental to Mummi and from what little I know of the man from Tino, which isn't much because he died when Tino was two, he was a really wonderful guy. Tino gave me his wedding ring." Berwald said showing Mads his hand before he headed off into town, the GPS already programmed to the nearest mecca of all things made of MORE POWER. But if Berwald remembered correctly it was on the way to the Mall and so huge it was not hard to miss.

"Oh and I should warn you, that brass bed up in the attic squeaks like it's about to fall apart. Remember to buy WD40 or the whole house will know if you're messing around. You're right over Tino's parent's bedroom." Berwald added with a wink.

"Yeah, that would probably be a nice thing to do. They are your family now and holy shit that man must have had gigantic hands for his ring to be able to fit on your fat sausage fingers." Mads wrinkled his nose when he looked at the ring, not for lack of appreciation of it, but from astonishment of the surmised size of Tino's grandfather. "He had to be a wall of bulk, and a real manly-man. Was he the old-guy in the picture hanging in Tino's bestemor's kitchen? I kindda guessed it was because in it he was wearing that white beret that Tino wears. He looked like a fuckin' bear. And his beard was killer. Now we see where Tino's taste in men comes from." Mads made a surprised face to know that his little buddy's love of testosterone came from a family line of it, but his expression was interrupted by a groan. "A creaky old brass bed, how cruel the fates they be. Not like it matters much though, Siguard being in this way means he probably won't be in much mood for sex, but I will be purchasing that WD40 in case he'd be willing to be the ( ... )

"I don't have fat sausage fingers Rovhal! I'm 6'5 I should have girly sized hands like yours shorty?" Berwald teased. "Yes that picture is his Ukki. I would have loved to have met him, Mummi says Tino is a lot like him in his demeanor. One minute a jolly Santa, the next, well I think he gets the mouth that knows every swear word in every language from his Mummi actually." Berwald laughed as he turned into the parking lot of Mecca.... er... the large box store made of all things found in what is Carpenter heaven ( ... )

Mads didn't have time to dwell introspectively on all those deep thoughts, though they were scribbled down in his mental log book. Instead he could not contain the loud and boisterous "JA!" That rang out through his chest and throat. After it had come out he noticed someone staring. Well, okay, he had been rather loud, enough to draw the attention of the passers-by who were probably trying to mind their own business without being auditorially accosted by the smaller and more petulant of two raiding Vikings at their home improvement store. He put on a 'oh what are you looking at?' expression for half a minute before letting it go and following the Swede towards the store. "We're going to need a couple trollies."
