haven't heard vandermark in quite a while, but from what i remember his stuff was pretty awesome rockin' hard bop type of music. not at all mathy or pretentious

thanks for this, good to hear what's happening music-wise in oslo these days. how are you finding it, by the way? i'm feeling homesick for the first time since i left oslo over a decade ago, but am worried that it'll feel just as small and unexciting as back in the day. i think i could handle it - i so long for a higher (read: not subhuman) standard of living that it would be a worthwhile trade-off for me, but i'm worried that after years of being enmeshed in the london scene, merek will develop a permanent case of cabin fever.

i'm luvin' it! hehe. i think oslo has a great music scene (last month i missed so many good shows, and coming up there is everyone from nick cave to boris to einsturzende to smoosh last night that i missed;()...... between shows and my local footy pub (run by aussie and brit expats) i'm never running out of things to do, there's always TOO Much to do... on the other hand, its not a place to go if you don't wanna see the same people twice in a cool party or show. but that's fine with me, i like the feeling of being part of a community or different sub communities... i'm sure its developed a immensely over the past 10 years...grünerløkka is crowded with so many slick clothing shops and cafes... if you can get past the expensive living costs (which aren't so bad if you got a fulltime job, and i'm also finding work plentiful!)... then it's awesome!
of course keep in mind my friends tell me i'm brainwashed, HA...heia norge and all that!!

exactly what i was hoping to hear! my impression of the place is totally outdated, mainly because i simply haven't been part of it for ages but also because the few friends i've stayed in touch with have mostly retired from the 'scene' to a greater or lesser degree... so i get the false impression from them that nothing's happening, when really they're just not doing anything anymore..!
