Cotton Baby Cardigan Pattern

Mar 18, 2011 18:28

Improvising here- this is a simple striped cardigan with a yoke neckline. 4 stitches to the inch stitch gauge.

Cast on 63, work 1” in 3x3 rib. Switch color. Stockinette body- pick up a single stitch on first round- 64 stitches. Increase on 3rd row of color 4 stitches, plus cast on 5 at either end. Work those first and last 5 in garter throughout remainder of body. This will be turned under to stabilize front edges.

Increase as follows until yolk is even with child’s armpit: in each stripe of 4 rows, increase on the knit row 4 stitches- 1 at each shoulder and 2 at center back in the first Sunflower and Bachelor button stripes. From the first Green Apple stripe make 2 at each side, none at center back.

Stripe pattern is:
4 rows Sunflower
4 rows Bachelor Button
4 rows Green Apple
16 rows Sea Spray
4 rows Green Apple
4 rows Bachelor Button
4 rows Sunflower

When you reach the armpit level (model measured 5.5”), knit the button band and the first 8 stitches. Slip 26 onto waste yarn, co 16, k 16, slip 26 onto waste yarn, co 16, k to end of row. Sleeve openings made. Knit remainder of body even in stripe pattern.

Pick up 26 stitches evenly on armhole and transfer stitches off of scrap yarn back onto needles. Work in the established stripe pattern, decrease every other row until 42 stitches remain.  Complete repeats of the stripes until you reach the same length as the body, work six rows of 3x3 rib and bind off.  Repeat for other sleeve.  Weave in all of your ends.

Front finishing details will go here.
Button fastening method will go here.

Please note: properly written up pattern should follow- these are just my working notes.
