Aaaand, I get a chance to use my shiny new NERV logo icon. I need a few more to go with this series, and I'm tempted to ask if someone would care to fanart Sabia so I can make a decent icon of her; much love, kudos and other yummies of choice if someone can fanart her with her wintry gentleman. Will give credit as well as posting said fanarts on the master list page (or a visual reference page, if I ever create one)
Title: "Not Here (Why?)"
Day/Theme: Sept 28) this broken world we choose
Series: Neon Genesis Evangelion
Character/Pairing: Tabris, Yui Ikari, OFC
Rating: PG-13 (for general weirdness: it's Instrumentality, dammit)
Author's Note: More Instrumentality madness, thus more fun with weird tenses that go all over the map. This time, in this late installment in
"Neon Enoch Evangelion", aka the ambitious NGE project, we're seeing things from Sabia's POV. Also, bear in mind, Instrumentality for a Grigori is not what it is for a human, or so it seems from the glimpse that I've had. Tanging is easier than what Sabia went through because of her decision...
Suggested track: Schubert's "Ave Maria" --
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52wVimT4h_A Ikari's voice speaks, "Make sure she disappears, make it permanent."
Enniel's voice speaks, "Your procrastination disappoints me."
Kajii's voice speaks, "I was only toying with you, I never really cared."
Akagi-sama's voice speaks, "Your work here is pointless."
Asuka's voice speaks, "You're as hopeless as Wonder-Girl."
Keel's voice speaks, "Make yourself useful for once: look to the future, not to the past."
Kozo's voice speaks, "There is another who claimed my heart a long time ago."
ENOUGH!!!!! her voice cries, echoing through the flashing void.
Tabris above her, she below, the moon behind his shoulder. "So why then did you come here when you don't belong?"
She looks up at him. "I came because I had compassion on the humans. I came because I chose him above my kind."
"You chose him even though you knew there was a risk you would be destroyed. But why did you choose this existence?"
"I chose him and I chose the humans because I love them."
"Did they love you in return?"
"Not as I had hoped they would."
"But you continued to love them anyway. Better to love even when love is not returned than to deny love and let your heart die. You can stay here where you can try to shut out the pain, or you can return to the world you left and embrace the chance that you may feel pain."
"Then I'll just have to take my chances," she said.
Tabris starts to withdraw, but he reaches down to touch her face gently. "I trust you know what you're doing, Penemue."
"It's a risk I'd rather take, whether I take it as Sabia or as Penumue, or something between the two."
She stands in the void, the red fluid cradling her. She gazes down into the gentle green eyes of a brown-haired woman in her late twenties, clad in a white lab coat over a pink blouse and a black skirt.
"You chose well, Sabia, when you chose to embrace humanity. Your choice will help you retain who you were before you came here, but you will have to be vigilant if you are to stay that way."
"Will I find him there?"
"You will find him if he chooses to leave this world and risk losing what he reached for. But even if he does not, find a reason to stay loving and to stay living. As dark as the world may be, you can make a paradise of it, as long as you choose to live and to love."
Something about the woman's face is familiar. "Were you the one whom he gave up everything for?" she asks.
The stranger smiles. "Yes, I am she."
"I wasn't trying to intrude..."
Yui laughs gently. "You weren't. You did well in choosing him. No doubt he found some measure of happiness in that, and if he comes to his senses, he will have the chance to fill that measure to overflowing. Go now and look for him. Look for love..."
"I'm glad to have met you, Yui-sama," she replies. The current carries her upward.
Pain crushes her soul as she feels the substance of her being, the flotsam that floated on the surface of the sea, gather itself and remold itself into her previous form. She hurls back her head, screaming, expelling fluid from her lungs and creating ripples in the sea of life.
