I spend a lot of useless time fantasizing about houses too.

You are smart.

Doing the market (apps, interviews, etc. etc. etc.) while working a FT visiting gig and trying to dissertate is very hard.

I envy people that wait until the PhD is in hand before they go onto the market.

(In my case, I had to go starting last year---no more funding, etc.)

I fantasize about houses a lot and frequently look at them online, just to think about what I could buy. But, given the upcoming two year job hunt, I think it'll be a while before I can buy anything.
