Chapter 1: Crisom's rivers

There's a hero
If you look inside your heart
You don't have to be afraid
Of what you are
There's an answer
If you reach into your soul
And the sorrow that you know
Will melt away

The samurai entered the room and smiled softly in front of the view. His best friend and also, prince was sat down on the ground with closed eyes, water's balls flying around his hands, a concentrate look on his face.

"You've improved your powers."
"Thanks, Kazu." Ohno grinned, making the water disappear from his hands.
"You'll become an amazing water bending." Nino patted his shoulder.
"I don't think so. My powers are still weak." Ohno sighed, his blue eyes shining with sadness.
"Hey, don't be so negative, you are already doing great." Nino hugged him from behind, allowing Ohno to lay his head against his chest.
"I know but we haven't the time..." Ohno mumbled, playing with his best friend's fingers.
"I was coming to tell you something. We have to leave."
"What?!" Ohno jumped.
"Ryo is planning to attack this place and if he finds you, everything is lost." Nino smiled.
"But..."
"Satoshi, I know you hate leaving your men behind you but you are the most important, you are the last chance against Jin. And by the way, you won't be alone as I'm coming with you."
"As long as you are with me, I can go anywhere." Ohno buried his face in Nino's neck who stroked his hair softly.
"C'mon prince Ohno, we have to see your uncle before leaving." Nino stood up, helping his master.

They joined Johnny, Ohno's uncle who was praying on his carpet, candles burning in the room, its little flames moving and growing as the monk was whispering strange words.

"Uncle?" Ohno kneeled down in front of him.
"Satoshi. I prayed the whole night and the water's spirit told me something very important." The old monk whispered.
"Eh?"
"You have to find the secret's weapon. It will help you to stop Jin and this war between our three empires. You'll have a long way and Nino will come with you. Find this mysterious weapon, The water's spirit told me you had to join Arashi."
"But, uncle, Arashi is a myth. This place doesn't exist!" Ohno protested.
"You're wrong. You'll find it. You'll leave tonight. It's our last chance, you are our last chance Satoshi." Johnny smiled. Ohno nodded and left the room with sadness. No need to protest, Satoshi knew it was his fate and his uncle was trying to protect their Empire.
"Take care of him. Protect him with your life, Nino." Johnny asked with a pleading tone.
"With my life." Nino bowed.
"He is our last hope. The road is long, maybe Satoshi will doubt about himself or try to come back but make him remember we need this weapon. Help him, support him and bring him back alive, please." Johnny took a katana and gave it to the young guard.
"The..."
"Yes, it's Shadow's katana. Its power is incredible but only reacts in good hands, take care of this katana. You are powerful Nino, this weapon is made for you."
"I don't think so. This katana only reveals its full powers when a Shadow is using it and you know the last Shadow died a long time ago..." Nino sighed.
"True. But Nino, even if you aren't a Shadow, this katana will lend you a part of its power to protect Satoshi." Johnny smiled.
"Thank you very much, monk." Nino bowed deeply and took the katana carefully before leaving.

Nino sighed when he saw Ohno staring at the gap with his wonderful light blue eyes. Satoshi's eyes had always been his weakness. They looked like a beautiful blue ocean, giving you the feeling of diving in the sea. His friend's eyes had a power on him, they were able to appease him and calm him down immediately. There was something special inside, something you couldn't describe and made his heart flutter anytime he was looking at his prince. Someone would call it love but Kazu refused this painful idea. Satoshi was his best friend, they grew up together, were sharing everything but Nino knew where his place was. He was Satoshi's guard. He had been chosen to protect their prince. The biggest honor a man could dream about in his life. An honor but also a curse because Nino knew he hadn't any rights on Satoshi's heart. As deep as his love for him was, their relationship wouldn't be allowed. Satoshi was meant to lead their empire and marry a princess to product a heir. A relationship with a man and plus, his best friend, would be unforgivable.
But sometimes, Nino was hoping. He knew Satoshi loved him. It wasn't a question of arrogance but his prince was like a part of him. They knew each other perfectly and today, all the little gestures they had for each other and someone would call affection was a way to show the love they were sharing. Several times, Nino had almost put a word on these gestures. Several times, he had almost caught these beautiful pouty lips that were begging him to be kissed. Several times, Nino had almost laid Satoshi on the ground to make love to him. But anytime these thoughts had invaded his mind, Kazunari had pushed it away. Because he knew Satoshi wouldn't push him away. Satoshi would kiss him back, would happily form one with him and then, there would have no return. That's why he had to be strong for the two of them. To erase this desire burning inside him anytime Satoshi was raising his wonderful blue eyes toward him. But would he resist a long time like that?

"You are thinking too much, Toshi." Nino sat down next to his prince who frowned.
"I know but... Kazu, there are so many questions in my mind. I don't know what to do, I'm lost."Ohno whispered.
"First, you have to hide your tattoo, babe." Nino took a scarf and wrapped Ohno's forehead delicately.
"I hate this tattoo." Ohno pouted, scratching the mark on his skin.
"You're wrong, this tattoo is beautiful." Nino smiled, kissing the half-moon on Ohno's forehead.
"You always think everything is beautiful." Ohno mumbled.
"No. I think YOU are absolutely beautiful, honey." Nino smiled softly, stroking Ohno's cheek who closed his eyes with happiness.
"Thank you for always being here." Ohno buried his face in his friend's neck who kissed his hair lovingly, his hand stroking Satoshi's head.
"We have to go, Ohno-sama." Nino sighed.
"Don't call me like that, you know I hate it!"Satoshi muttered.
"Yes but you are the prince. The last prince and I have to call you like that." Nino chuckled, pecking his prince's nose.
"We grew up together, Kazu, you're like my brother and I'm just 24 years old." Ohno pouted.
"I know, I know. Shall we go?" Nino chuckled, taking Ohno's hand.
"Hun."Ohno nodded.

They left two hours later with their two best guards, preferring to be as discret as possible.
Ohno was trying to hold his tears back when he said goodbye maybe forever to his uncle and some of his friends. They walked a long time and stopped in the forest when the sun disappeared in the sky to show a full and beautiful moon. The night was incredibly quiet and Nino didn't like that. Silence was the worst because it often meant an attack by surprise. Whispering some incantations, the young guard prepared his senses to a possible attack, identifying any noises, any cracklings, staying as close as possible to his best friend.

But Nino stopped when he saw his prince looking at something with wide eyes. Turning his head, Nino saw lots of puff of smoke coming from their hidden place.

"Satoshi..." Nino started but Ohno ignored him and ran away. "Satoshi!!!" Nino followed him, running into the forest, the tree's branches hitting his face, trying to catch his best friend. But he wasn't the best guard of the royal family for nothing. Making an incredible jump, Nino reached his friend who fell on the ground.
"I have to return there!" Ohno screamed when Nino caught his waist.
"No! They will kill you if you try to save them, it's too late, they are dead!" Nino tightened his grip around Ohno who fell on his knees, crying loudly and struggling.
"I have to go! They will kill everybody! They will kill my uncle!"Satoshi screamed.
"They stayed to protect you, you have to continue no matter what! I know it's painful and horrible but we have no choice, Satoshi!"
"No!!! Let me go!!" Ohno tried to push his guard away but Nino slapped his cheek roughly. Ohno stared at him with wide eyes, his hand on his red cheek.
"Are you stupid?! You are our last chance, if they catch you, your uncle would have died for nothing!! And did you think about me? I don't want to lose you! What would I become without you!!!" Nino yelled, shaking the short prince.

Ohno stoop up and walked away without a word. Nino fell on his knees when he heard his best friend screaming in pain and crying, the river taking a dark red color as if there was blood inside of the water. Ohno was hitting the ground violently to show his anger and sadness, the water of the river hitting the trees, clouds invading the sky and the wind starting to blow roughly.

"I'm so sorry, Satoshi." Nino whispered when his friend grabbed his head with both hands, screaming.

The young guard left him alone for a moment, trying to let his friend calm down. Satoshi stayed on the edge of the river, crying loudly, his face buried in his knees. It broke Nino's heart to see his friend in this state. Seeing, him crying and screaming in pain was destroying the young guard. But he knew his decision was right. Not right for leaving innocents being killed but right to save their last chance, to save other innocents that were suffering elsewhere. And as strong as Ohno was, he wasn't able to fight with his powers for the moment. He was still not strong enough. Nino stayed against a tree, watching his friend crying loudly. The clouds had disappeared but the wind was still rough.

"Be careful, your powers are stronger when the moon is full." Nino said, seeing Ohno trying to create a wave with the water.
"I know." The prince replied and kneeled down to put his fingers in the water. A fish swam toward him and started to play with his hand happily. Ohno cupped it in his hands, the fish swimming in circles in his palms.
"Don't be so sad, I hate it." Nino sat behind his friend who laid his back against his chest.
"I can't help it." Ohno shrugged, raising his hand. A ball of water left the river, flying in the air to form a circle before hitting a tree violently.
"Satoshi..." Nino took Ohno's chin to make him look at him. "Please." The young guard whispered.
"Kazu..."Ohno's voice died in his throat, tears rolling down his chubby cheeks.
"Don't cry please. Don't cry!" Nino hugged him tightly, his heart tightening when he heard Ohno's sobs against his chest.
"I'm sorry... I'm useless..." Ohno sobbed.
"You're not. You're strong, I trust you and you'll save us." Nino rocked him in his arms, stroking his hair and singing softly their song.
"Here we are now, everything is about to change, we face tomorrow as we say goodbye to yesterday, a chapter ending but the stories only just begun, a page is turning for everyone..."After a while, Satoshi relaxed a bit, letting his friend stroke his hair and kiss his cheek. It was something that he loved about Nino. His touch. Because despite his sharp tongue and sometimes, cold side, Kazunari was always soft with him. How many times the young guard hugged him in his arms? How many times his friend had kissed his skin and stroked his hair to comfort him? Always since they met in his uncle's garden when he was 7 years old. Since this day, Nino had always been here for him no matter what. The young guard knew him more than anyone else and could appease and make him smile even in the worst moments.
"Thanks Kazu, I feel better now. Good night."Ohno kissed Nino's cheek before leaving the edge of the river. Nino stood up after a while and kneeled down in front of the young prince who was sleeping deeply, his long black hair falling on his chubby cheeks.
"I would do anything for you." Nino whispered, kissing Ohno's forehead before laying down on the ground too.

A hot breathe woke Nino up who smiled softly, seeing Ohno's face in his neck, one of his arms around the guard's waist.

"Toshi, it's time to get up." Nino stroked Ohno's hair who frowned cutely before opening his eyes with difficulty.
"Mmm." Ohno mumbled, tightening his grip around Nino who chuckled and pushed him away.
"Wake up my cute little teddy." Nino pinched the prince's nose who groaned and stood up.
"I wanted to sleep more."
"You always want to sleep more, babe but the road is very long!" Nino laughed.

After a quick breakfast, they continued their road, trying to be as discreet as possible but some hours later, they entered a village and froze in front of the misery. Ohno grabbed Nino's hand tightly, clenching his jaw when he saw some children looking at them with sad eyes. The village was dirty and as grey as the misery and pain of the people. Satoshi bit his lip when he saw three children with a baby in their arms crying.

"Here." Ohno kneeled down in front of them and held them out some food and water.
"Thank you." The children grinned, biting in the piece of bread and giving water to the younger child who stopped to cry and drank hungrily.
"Take care." Ohno patted one of the boy's hair kindly before leaving.
"Ohno-sama, if you give our food at every child we meet, we won't be able to eat." Nino protested.
"Don't call me like that! And they needed to eat more than us." Ohno replied before running toward a woman to give her some water.
"He will kill us by acting like that." Nino sighed.
"He isn't our prince for nothing." One of the guard chuckled.
"True." Nino laughed.
"He really has a big heart." Sho chuckled.
"That's why we love him." Nino smiled softly.
"That's why you are in love with him." Sho smirked.
"Be careful with your words, Sakurai." Nino snapped before joining his prince.
"Truth hurts, ne?" The young guard sighed.

"Toshi, we have to go." Nino stated.
"But..."
"I know you want to help them but the road is long." Nino helped him to climb on his horse.
"Good luck, Prince Ohno." An old woman whispered with a smile.
"How do you know who I am?" Ohno raised his eyebrows in disbelief.
"I've only seen these kinds of eyes one time in my life." The woman smiled.
"Who?"
"They weren't blue as the ocean like yours but they were bringing hope in our hearts. Good luck, young prince, keep this wonderful heart you have and this." She put something in Ohno's hand who blinked in surprise when the woman left with a deep bow and a wink.
"What is it?" Ohno opened his hand and saw a beautiful and strange necklace. It was forming a blue half-moon shining with the sun. Inside of the moon, there was a small purple fish.
"The fish seems alive." Nino said suddenly, making Ohno jump.
"I think it's alive." Ohno turned the necklace and the fish inside started to swim, making circles.
"It's magic. What is it?" Nino frowned.
"I don't know but I'm sure this necklace isn't dangerous." Ohno put it around his neck making Nino scream.
"Your tattoo!!!" Nino took the scarf off Ohno's forehead, gasping when he saw his friend's tattoo shining brightly.
"It doesn't hurt." Ohno touched his skin but the light disappeared.
"But maybe it's dangerous, you should throw this necklace." Sho said.
"No. I trust this woman." Ohno shook his head stubbornly.
"Alright, babe." Nino kissed his forehead and they continued their road in silence.

The atmosphere was heavy, as if something was about to happen. They settled in a safe place for the night, Ohno walking away to look for some fruits for their dinner while Nino was securing the camp. The young prince found a river and drank a bit, cleaning his black hair in the water. Suddenly, a noise made him jump.

"Kazu?" Ohno called, shivering in fear. The noise resounded again and after a while, Ohno saw someone walking toward him. "Who are you?!" Ohno whispered.

The prince blinked, seeing a young and gorgeous man. Even if he was dirty, Ohno could see his beautiful face behind the dirtiness.

"I'm Satoshi, who are you?" Ohno tried but the stranger jumped on him and put a knife against his throat. "Please, I won't hurt you!" Ohno screamed in fear.
"Killer!!!" The man yelled.
"You..." Ohno blinked when he saw the violet eyes shining brightly.
"Satoshi!!" Ohno heard Nino screaming. The stranger froze and disappeared in the night, leaving a shocked Ohno.
"Kazu..."
"What happened, where did he go?!"
"Kazu..." Ohno repeated.
"Calm down, I'm here!"
"Kazunari!" Ohno yelled.
"What?"
"This man...he...he had the same eyes than me..." Ohno whispered with a shaking voice.

To be continued...
