Chapter 10:

To ride a horse, there are only two rules: trust and respect...

"I'm ready," Sho said several days later.

"Okay." Aiba smiled and lifted him in his arms to put him in the wheelchair.

"Let's go home." Jun grinned.

"Yes." Sho nodded.

After some explanations and appointments for the re-education, the three boys left the hospital. They stayed silent in the car, Sho looking at the landscape through the window. When they arrived at the ranch, Ohno and Nino ran toward them with relief.

"Okaeri, Sho-chan!" Ohno exclaimed.

"Hi," Sho whispered, looking at the stables and horses in the meadow.

"I've prepared something for lunch. Jun told us you are a fan of curry ramen."

"I'm not very hungry," Sho mumbled, pushing on the wheels of his chair to go inside.

"What..."

"He needs time to accept the situation," Aiba said softly.

"Okay."

"Maybe we should give him some time to get used to the house now. And I'll prepare him a bedroom because he can't climb the stairs anymore." Aiba smiled and followed the older inside.

The horse lover found Sho in the living room looking at the wall full of pictures and trophies as if it was the most interesting thing of the world.

"I'll prepare your new room."

"Hun."

Aiba sighed and walked toward the guest room next to the living room. The young man prepared everything, pushing the furniture’s as much as possible to let Sho pass easily with his wheelchair. There was a large bathroom inside that would allow Sho to take his bath easily.

"It's ready. Want to see?" Aiba asked an hour later to Sho who was still staring at the wall. Not letting him the time to answer, Aiba grabbed the wheelchair and pushed Sho in the bedroom. "Here, I have made everything as easy as possible. The bed side is here and you can access to the cupboard. There is also a big bathroom. You will be able to go inside with the wheelchair." Aiba explained everything while Sho was staying silent. "Your re-education will start tomorrow at hospital. Heroki-sensei will wait for you and I'll drive you there. Do you want to eat now?"

"No thanks. I'm tired and want to sleep," Sho muttered.

"Okay, but I'll wake you up for dinner. And tomorrow, you could see Spirit."

"No thanks."

Aiba sighed and gave up, thinking Sho just needed some time. He had barely cried in front of them and had quickly taken back his impassive face. It would take time for the rapper to get better and not just physically.

"Sho-chan, dinner is ready!" Aiba opened the door but found Sho sleeping deeply. The young man sighed and closed the door. After all, Sho had just left hospital and was still tired.

However, the next day Sho didn't eat his breakfast. When Aiba drove him to the hospital, the tension in the air was high. The singer hadn't said a word since the previous day and didn't seem ready to talk.

"I'll leave you with Heroki-sensei. I'll come back in an hour." Aiba grinned when they stopped next to a young man in white. Sho nodded without a word and Aiba kissed his cheek quickly before leaving.

Aiba thought working with someone else would help Sho to feel better, but when he came back and saw Sho's closed face, the younger sighed in despair.

"The session didn't go well. He refuses to talk and gave up after five minutes. He stayed in his wheelchair for the rest of the hour," Heroki explained.

"His brother made him react yesterday and we thought he was ready to fight, but once at home his attitude totally changed and he refused to talk and eat."

"Something might have perturbed him..."

"Well, I don't know why as he immediately entered the house. He even refused to see his horse."

"The horse from the accident?" Heroki asked.

"Yes. And he didn't even greet the other horses though he likes them a lot."

"I think that's what perturbed him."

"Why?"

"Before the accident, he was able to help you in the ranch and to take care of the horses, but now he is unable to walk so he can't do these things anymore."

"You mean he is depressed because he can't help me anymore?"

"It's a possibility. If he liked to take care of them that much, it must be hard for him not to be able to do it. He feels useless."

"What can I do then?"

"Let him some time. In one week, we will see if he has adjusted his behavior. If not, we'll talk about it. It must be hard for him as he had a very physical job with you."

"Okay. Thank you sensei." Aiba bowed and left.

One week later, nothing had changed. Sho didn't even want to go to his sessions and spent all day in his bedroom barely eating. Aiba, who had decided to let him have some time, finally got angry and entered his bedroom to shake him.

"Sho-chan, breakfast is ready and you have your session."

"I won't go," Sho muttered, covering himself with the blanket.

"You have to," Aiba said calmly, opening the curtains.

"No."

"You don't let me the choice." Aiba snapped and pulling the blanket away, lifted Sho in his arms.

"What are you doing?! Put me down?!!!" Sho yelled.

"No. You stink and you have to eat. So shower, breakfast and after we will go to your session," Aiba stated, opening the bathroom.

"Aiba put me down!!!"

"Why?! To let you go back to your bed?! To let you rot in your bedroom all your life?! No way! I won't let you. We told you we were here for you!" Aiba put Sho in his wheelchair and pushed him in the bathroom.

"Get out!"

"No. You stink and I will wash you myself as you are too stubborn to get up by yourself!" Aiba switched on the water and stripped Sho, showing a strength the rapper had never suspected. Sho blushed and hid his lower part. "I've already seen you naked." Aiba chuckled.

"It wasn't the same."

"It was. And by the way, this night was incredible as I didn't tell you and rejected you the next day." Aiba smiled. Sho looked away and let Aiba wash him, blushing in shame. "Your body is so beautiful. Oh! Your tattoo! I hadn't seen it as with were in the dark and drunk!" Aiba exclaimed when he saw the tattoo on Sho's groin. Taking a look, Aiba saw the two kanjis. "Hope? Why this kanji?"

"Because I've always hoped for a better tomorrow," Sho muttered.

"It's a beautiful tattoo. I like it and it's pretty sexy."

"Nothing is sexy when you are in a wheelchair."

"You're not in a wheelchair forever and you're still as sexy as before." Aiba knelt down, not caring about the water falling on his clothes. "You're beautiful, Sho. You haven't changed. Maybe you can't run like before but it will change. If you fight, you will be able to walk again."

"I feel so useless," Sho whispered. "Seeing the horses made me remember I will probably never ride again." It was that. Like Heroki said, Sho's behavior was because of the ranch.

"Don't be stupid, you will be able to. Okay, you can't clean the stables for the moment but you can ride a horse." Aiba smiled.

"Eh?"

"You didn't know you could ride even when you are in a wheelchair? Many people do it. In fact, I think it would help you a lot to recover faster if you rode again."

"I... It's impossible... My legs..."

"Ghost will be very happy to welcome you on his back. I've taught him how to behave with the handicapped."

"I don't know if I can..."

"As long as you want to and fight, everything is possible. The question is, what do you want, Sho? Ending up in a wheelchair and alone all your life or fighting to walk again and work with the horses?" Aiba asked softly.

"I want to fight..."

"As expected. It will be hard, but who said happiness was easy to get? If pain and sadness didn't exist, happiness wouldn't too. We are all here for you, don't be ashamed. We will never judge you. We are a family after all, ne?"

"Hun." Sho nodded shyly.

"So now, let's take this shower, eat and after we will go to your session. You will work hard and I'll ask Heroki's permission to let you ride Ghost."

"Masaki..."

"Hun?"

"Thank you for everything," Sho said softly.

"It's what we do when we love someone, ne?" Aiba grinned. Sho smiled and raised his hand to stroke the younger's cheek.

"I love you too."

"We'll overcome that together, Sho." Aiba kissed the rapper softly.

After a big breakfast, Aiba drove his lover to the hospital where Heroki was waiting for them with a questioning face.

"Sho-chan is ready."

"I'm glad to hear that." Heroki grinned.

"I let you two then, I'll..." Sho caught Aiba's arm.

"Don't go. Stay with me." Sho asked with pleading eyes.

"You can stay, Aiba-san. It's not a problem." Heroki smiled when Aiba looked at him with questioning eyes.

"Alright. I stay with you, Sho." Aiba intertwined their fingers, making Sho smile happily.

"First exercise then. Lay down on the carpet," Heroki ordered. Sho nodded and blushed in shame when the doctor took his leg to flex it against his chest. "You have to get used to the basic movements again. It's like teaching a child to walk," Heroki explained. "Aiba-san, take my place," the doctor requested when he saw tears of shame in Sho's eyes.

"Okay." Aiba knelt down and took the leg carefully. "Sho-chan isn't supple at all," Aiba whined.

"Oi! I am!" Sho protested.

"Pfff, not at all. I feel like holding a piece of wood." Aiba smirked.

"I'm going to kick your ass, brat!" Sho replied.

"You will have to catch me first." Aiba chuckled before gasping when Sho froze. "I... Sorry... I..." But for his surprise, Sho laughed and nodded.

"Be ready because you will pay when I'll walk again!"

"I'm faster than you, Mr. Snail." Aiba smirked and pushed on the leg, making Sho whine in pain.

"Oi! It hurts!"

"Gomen gomen, Jiji-san."

"I'm not an ojii-san!"

"Yes, you are. You complain like a grandpa and your body is as young as my grandfather's."

"Oi! I swear I'll make your pretty ass pay when I'll walk."

"No need to walk to make my bum pay." Aiba smirked.

"Masaki!" Sho blushed, showing the doctor who burst into laughter.

"You two are so funny. I wish all my patients were like that." Heroki chuckled.

"Because my boyfriend is a big idiot." Sho smirked.

"Oi!!" Aiba protested under their laughs.

"Let's continue the session." Heroki smiled.

After two hours of exercises, Sho gave up because he was too exhausted.

"You did most in two hours than in one week, Sakurai-kun. Omedetou," Heroki praised.

"Thank you."

"I let you join the car while I ask for the horse." Aiba smiled.

"Hun." Sho nodded and left the room.

"You did great with him, I was sure staying would help a lot."

"What do you mean?"

"He loves and trusts you. And you act naturally with him, you don't see his handicap and treat him as if he was normal, it helps him a lot, believe me."

"I was scared my words had hurt him."

"I think he prefers you to talk to him like that because it pushes him and gives him the will to fight. If you talked as if he was a handicapped, he would believe in this state and wouldn't try. You make him fight his own limits."

"I'm happy then. I wanted to ask you if he could ride for his re-education."

"Later, yes. Not now. You will start when we will work on the bar's exercises, his body needs some time to heal first, we can't do things too quickly."

"But after it will be possible, then?"

"Yes. I have seen lots of handicapped people making their re-education with horses. It helps them to feel normal and to find their old reflexes. And for the ones who will always stay handicapped, horses help them to feel as if they were like everyone else."

"Horses are magic." Aiba smiled.

"Hun. I have even blind patients who ride too."

"It's amazing."

"Even if Sakurai-kun did great today, his mood will get down sometimes when he won't be able to do something. If it happens, you can call me and it would be good if you met this person." Heroki wrote something on a paper and gave it to Aiba.

"Elena Kobayashi?!"

"She's an old patient of mine. If one day, Sakurai-kun is too depressed, bring him to her. Elena will help him."

"Yes, I know her very well and she will be happy to help Sho. Thank you a lot, sensei." Aiba bowed.

"You're welcome. And a last thing. Don't hesitate to show him your feelings. Be yourself. Tell him if he goes too far and tell him how beautiful he is in your eyes. He will need to feel beautiful, not to give up and see you still love him despite his handicap."

"I won't forget that." Aiba nodded.

"Even if he is temporarily paralyzed, making love isn't forbidden." The doctor winked, making Aiba blush.

"Th-ank you." Aiba bowed and left quickly with red cheeks.

Sho looked at him with curious eyes when the horse lover climbed in the car, still as red as a tomato.

"What's wrong?"

"Arg. Nothing." Aiba smiled softly. In fact, he was glad for the advice because he wanted to be close to his lover again. Will Sho be ready to make love in his state? Aiba promised himself to work on this delicate subject. He was sure having a normal sex life would help Sho a lot in his re-education. "Let's go home. I'm hungry!"

"Me too," Sho agreed.

Aiba grabbed his lover's nape to kiss him softly with a smile.

"I'll show you you can trust me again."

"I already trust you." Sho whispered before looking at the road.

Sho's re-education will be hard, but he was ready to fight; for himself and his family. He also hoped this new happiness wouldn't be spoiled again.

To be continued...

A/N: It's hard for Sho to accept his handicap but he told Aiba everything about what happened in the past and it's a good beginning compared to before when he was hiding everything inside :) He now, needs lots of patience and courage to fight to be able to walk one day but Aiba is here for him :D See you soon <3
