Nino's pov:
All my life, I thought my fate was already planned. People always said that an orphan who was brought back by all the families who adopted him would end in the street, junkie and would die before his 30 years old. I thought the same. Because nothing seemed possible to change this painful reality. I would end homeless, jobless and junkie and would die from an overdose before reaching my 30 years old. So, it let me four years before dying. Maybe believing in these people's words was the easiest way but it was less painful than fighting alone against your own demons.
I collapsed on the ground, shivering and breathing with difficulty. I hadn't eaten for a week and had barely drank some water someone had given me.
"Are you okay?" A soft voice made me jump. I raised my face to see a young girl staring at me with worry. She was beautiful even if I wasn't into women. She had long dark hair, a cute little nose and a mischievous smile.
"Yes. Sorry for disturbing." I muttered.
"You look empty." She whispered.
"I am empty." I smiled weakly.
"Come with me." She smiled.
"Eh?" I gasped, not believing a girl looking like...what... 20 years old if not less, proposed to a homeless to come with her. Was she crazy?
"Come on, trust me." She held out her hand that I took hesitantly. She made me climb in a limousine and ordered some things to her driver. "What's your name?" She turned toward me.
"Kazunari Ninomiya."
"Nice to meet you Kazu-chan." She grinned. "You can call me Lili."
"Lili, do you know a girl don't bring a man from the street with her? It's dangerous, I could be a psychopath or a rapist."
"You're not. I can see it in your eyes." She stared at me with these deep brown eyes as if she could read me like an open book.
"I have no money."
"Obviously. You look exhausted and very hungry. Don't worry, I have a good bathroom and lots of food at home."
"Why are you doing that for me? You don't even know me."
"I'm watching you everyday for one month. You are so courageous, Kazu-chan. You pretend to follow the path people drew for you but in fact, you fight to survive."
"I... I'm not. I know people are right and I will die before my 30 years old. I'm homeless and jobless after all. I have nothing. No family. No friends." I whispered.
"False. I'm your friend." She smiled, taking my hand, not caring about the fact I was dirty and stinked.
"Who are you? An angel?" She laughed at my words.
"No. I'm just a lonely girl." A shadow crossed her eyes and I caught what looked like sadness in her gaze. What did she mean?
We stopped in front of an old beautiful house when a butler welcomed us. She was rich, obviously but seemed to live alone. I took the best bath of my life, cleaning all the dirt on my skin. I looked more human now. I put the pajamas Lili gave me and found her in the kitchen talking with what certainly was the cook. She was laughing and helping him to prepare the rice. She really looked like an angel.
"Can I help?" I asked shyly.
"No, thank you. It's ready." Lili took the plates and brought them in the big living room. I sat in front of her, my stomach growling hungrily at the smell. She laughed under my blushing face. "You look really cute when you're cleaned."
"Ah... Thank you." I frowned when I saw her taking a box with lots of pills inside.
"It's for my heart. I need it to breath correctly." She explained in front of my questioning look.
"Oh. Is it bad?"
"I haven't much time to live. Doctors say I'll be fine but I'm not idiot. I can feel it. My heart is weaker everyday. But I'm not sad, I had a beautiful life and a loving family. In a way, we are the same."
"Eh?"
"People have condemned us. I know we can't escape to death but I fight to survive as long as possible. And for my brother. He is so kind, he does everything to protect and save me." She pointed a picture with a young man hugging her. He was gorgeous. His look was cold but the way he looked at her showed how much he loved her.
"Your brother looks very kind."
"You think so?!" Her eyes shone in happiness. "People always say he looks cold and cruel but in fact, he is very kind when you know him."
"I know what it is to be judged with one look." I smiled softly.
"People are cruel." I nodded.
"Hun. I've prepared a room for you. You can stay here as long as you want. Until you find a job and you have enough money to live by yourself. Don't give people the pleasure of being right. Don't believe in their words and fight for yourself."
"I've never worked before."
"What is your dream?"
"Eh?"
"Every child has a dream. What did you want to become later?"
"I... I wanted to be a singer but it's idiot ne." I chuckled.
"No. I think if you are determined, you can do it. Do you compose?"
"When I was at the orphanage, one of the teacher taught me how to play the guitar and piano. I... I wrote some songs but they weren't good." I blushed.
"Then, you have to write again and to give it to an agency."
"You don't even know if I'm good." I smirked.
"I heard you playing and singing once. You're very good. You have a beautiful emotion in your voice that we rarely hear now. I'm sure you will touch people's heart like your touched mine." She smiled.
"I'll do my best to succeed."
"Don't be afraid to dream louder." She smiled.
"Eh?"
"I love this quote. Dreams aren't idiot. They make you fight for what you want. They bring hope. But you have to live these dreams and not dream about the life you want."
"Oh." She was smart. "How old are you?"
"21 years old."
"You're very mature for your age."
"Doctors say it's because I'm sick. I have a different vision of the world. Here is your bedroom, good night, Kazunari." She kissed my cheek and left for her own bedroom.
The bed was amazingly comfortable. I had never slept in a so perfect bedroom before. I fell asleep quickly but woke up abruptly in the middle of the night when I heard some noises. I left my bedroom and found Lili on the sofa, breathing with difficulty. She swallowed some pills, trying to calm down, tears rolling down her cheeks. I wanted to help her but strangely, I thought it would be better not to disturb her. I didn't want her to believe I felt pity for her. She looked so brave. Why does fate was so cruel with kind and pure people? I silently went back to my bedroom and fell asleep some minutes later.
The next day, she was acting as if nothing happened, smiling, laughing and illuminating everything just by her presence. I helped in the house and started to write like I had promised her. She was like a muse. I was finding a new inspiration, basing my song on our stories, her courage, our promises. She became like a sister for me. Someone I wanted to protect and take care of. For the first time in my life, I had someone to love. And who loved me back. Like a true family. I wasn't alone anymore.
Time passed quickly, I was happy for the first time in my life and had found a reason to fight for my dreams. We spent all our days together, going out for dinners, cinema, playing like two children in a playground. When she was making crisis during the night, I hugged her for hours on the sofa, helping her to relax and fall asleep. I was finally starting to think that people may be wrong. You could change your fate if you really wanted to. You just needed will to fight and to not give up.
"Lili!!!" I screamed, entering the house like a little storm. I found her on the sofa, reading a book.
"What's wrong, Kazu-chan?" She chuckled.
"I did it!!! They loved my song!!! They want me to sign and enter their agency!!!" I held out a paper.
"Hontou?!!" She stood up and ran toward me.
"Because of you!! If my single works, I will release an album!!!"
"Omedetou!!!" She hugged me, tears of joy rolling down her cheeks.
"Thank you so much. If I'm here today, it's because of you." I whispered.
"You decided yourself to change. I'm so happy!!! Can I listen to this song?"
"Hun." I gave her the CD that she put in the stereo and suddenly, the sound of piano started to resound in the room.
"It's so beautiful." She whispered.
"I wrote it for you."
"Thank you." She grinned. "What's the name?"
"Niji."
"A word full of promises." She smiled softly.

My single worked a lot. I couldn't believe people liked my song and soon, my first album was released and worked as well as Niji. I wasn't known in the whole Japan but it was a good beginning. People were starting to recognize me in the street and asked me to sign their paper or album. It was new and even though being famous wasn't my first goal, I was very happy to know people liked my songs. Because I wrote with my soul. I put all my heart in my songs.
"Lili?" I called after spending the day at my agency. There was a big limousine parked in front of the house and some luggage's in the entry. What was happening? "Lili?" I called again and blinked, seeing a man in the living room. He was wearing an Armani black suit and looked cold. It was... Lili's brother.
"Who are you?" He asked coldly, staring at me as if he was scanning my soul.
"Eto... Ninomiya Kazunari... You must be Ohno Satoshi, Lili's older brother." I smiled, bowing deeply.
"Indeed. What are you doing here and how do you know my little sister?"
"I... It's a long story but we are friends and I'm living here with her. I was homeless and she brought me here to help me until I found a job and an apartment."
"It's impossible." Ohno said coldly.
"It is... I'm her friend... Ask her if you don't believe me. Where is she by the way?"
"I don't know if I should kill you right now for lying or if you're totally crazy."
"Lili?! Where are you?!" I called but Ohno stopped me with a death glare.
"She is gone."
"Eh? Where? She didn't tell me." I gasped.
"My sister is dead, Ninomiya-san.".
