I saw T4 tonight with aryky and JR. I liked it, though not as much as T's 1 or 2. I have to say, though, that certain aspects of the plot were done earlier and better on a certain TV show ( Read more... )

I was also pleasantly surprised by Anton Yelchin's performance.
I think that kid has a bright future.

I did like Kyle. Especially because he did a great job sounding and looking like (mannerism wise) Micheal Biehn's Kyle.

SPOILERS below!!!

I quite enjoyed it! With all the nods back the first couple of movies and the well-worn sci-fi themes, it wasn't especially original, but I definitely liked it even so. Terminator movies have never been overly complex, so I think it preserved the feel pretty well. And, BSG-ish though it was, I really loved Marcus as a character and storyline. He quite outshined John Connor, and that is no bad thing. I was kind of angry at the end though - now the most interesting character is dead and all we're left with is Connor, which might be a bad thing for the next two movies (although I assume Kyle will still be in it, which is good).

No, and JR is not his name, I was just using his initials because he doesn't have an LJ name (or I don't know what it is).

Overall, I think Salvation pretty much sucked. I'm not sure why they felt the need to rewrite a plot that was already written for them; based on what Salvation presented, all the bots had to do to win was... not send anyone back in time. There was really no convincing reason why Reese, Conner or anyone else in particular was important to the resistance. It was annoying how sycophantic everyone was, how little they cared if anyone else died or got hurt, and ultimately how uncharismatic the leader they were all following was.

I would also like to point out that much of the movie drew directly from Aliens, from the opening sequence of marines moving through creepy, dripping tunnels ("Are you seeing this?") to the dropship-I-mean-chopper just ahead of the nuclear explosion. But, you know, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and all...

Finally, mothers, don't let your daughters go into combat zones when pregnant.
