turns out 3 is the loneliest number...who knew?

Today I solved a problem which has been bothering me for nigh-on ten years. In the game of Set, the instruction booklet states that the game can end with either 9, 6, or 0 cards. Intuitively, it makes sense that if there are only 3 cards left, they will necessarily form a set, but it's quite challenging to really prove it/understand why ( Read more... )

Very cool. I've always wondered about the mathematics of Set and never sat down thinking about how it really works. This makes intuitive sense to me.
