Who are Ape Man and Monkey Boy?

You may well ask.

Crazy Lizard Mailing Listers have already seen these chaps, of course, but all regular readers of this here Livejournal will have seen them as well, albeit minus their costumes and in a slightly earlier design phase. Yes, Clarence the gorilla and Bobo the chimp (who appeared in the entries posted on October 9, 2004, and March 12, 2005. Feel free to go and have a look, we’ll still be here when you get back), despite looking much like any other cartoon apes, are in fact secretly the simian superheroes seen above. They are, as the big bold heading states in its big bold letters, Ape Man and Monkey Boy! Coo er gosh.

Mailing Listers have been aware of this fact for some time, but what none of you will know until the end of this sentence is that a publication date has been set for their appearance in a real-life paper-based Technicolour comic. And that comic is - you’ll have to imagine these words were a drum roll at this point - Bubba the Redneck Werewolf.

You may recall that excellent writing fellow Larry Williams and I had a 10-page story printed within said title last year, and since then interesting things have been afoot behind the scenes of Bubba. There’s a movie in the works, new publishing people have become involved, and head bloke Mitch Hyman has invited Larry and I to do some more 10-page bits with our own characters. These fellows are the characters in question, along with several others you’ll have seen dotted about here and on the main Crazy Lizard website.

The first story, entitled Stomp!, involves a maniacal insect from the future who travels back in time to wipe out the human race with the aid of a giant pair of mechanical legs. That insect is John Cockroach, a diminutive nutter who turned up in the LJ entry prior to this one, and the tale of his encounter with Ape Man and Monkey Boy is due to appear in Bubba #8. The comic is set to hit the shelves in February next year, and it should also get a mention in the December issue of Previews.

In the meantime you can expect further comicky things to appear round these parts, including sketches and info about future stories. For now, here’s page two of Stomp! (without colours and lettering) for your perusal, where Clarence and Bobo are alerted to dastardly happenings via the Bananalarm (hence the banana-shaped earpiece) and head for their secret base, the Monkeyhouse.

Stand by for additional happenings very soon, folks!
