An obvious starting point in building an AI is the human brain. Let's take a look at the capacity of the human brain.

It turns out that an average human brain has about 100 billion neurons.  The number of synapses per neuron is less clear, but it's probably around 1000.  To a first approximation, each neuron can cycle about 200 times per second.  ( Read more... )
