Possibly because said funeral processions are accompanied by emergency services vehicles and it's the law that one must pull over on both sides of the street when there are said vehicles with lights on, etc.

As I understand it, if there are two (or more) lanes in the direction in which the emergency vehicle is traveling, only that side has to yield to the vehicle but on "local" streets, both sides yield.

Not that you see many observing that convention!

It's not just NC. It happens everywhere in TX too. I haven't crossed paths with a procession in MN yet, I suppose.

yeah, when I read that, I thought "I think that's how we did it in TX" so, yay. I wasn't imagining things.

Of course, when I was in TX, we still had blue laws. You guys got rid of those, right?

We do it in Kansas too. I was always told it's a sign of respect. My dad used to get out and take off his hat.

yep, Georgia too, when I was learning to drive my dad told me to always pull over, even on the other side, as a sign of respect.
