I think the reason I get up in arms is because it is incredibly frustrating trying to explain my position on feminism because so many of the atrocities committed against women are not egregious and therefore are written off as petty. However, a great many of us recognize that (straight) men's sense of entitlement manifests itself in many forms and while sometimes it's my old boss lavishing attention on me and telling me what a pretty girl I am, in the next person it could be violent sexual assault or physical/mental abuse. And g-d damnit, it is a problem that effects women a hundred times more than men. Yes, with gay men it's different and yes, rapes in which men are the victim are likely underreported. Nevertheless, to be a man and be sexually assaulted is unexpected. While a man may find himself in a situation where a violent man/woman manages to take advantage of him, the difference is that this behavior is not endorsed by our culture whereas the objectification and overpowering of women is present in every aspect of society
