unecessary rant

i just read a pitchfork blurb that referred to emo's as legendary. Why the hell does everybody love emo's? Sure, it's been around for over 20 years. That doesn't change the fact that it is a bland mid-size venue with ugly art on the walls and indifferent bartenders. I've never been in the outside part, so maybe they have free drugs and puppy ( Read more... )

p.s. having witnessed a bartender trying to pick a fight with adam, who is basically the most mild-mannered, quiet, retiring, and inoffensive human being there ever was, i would say the bartenders cross the indifferent line right into surly.

it sounds like emo's has figured out that if it caters to the acts instead of the attendees, they can manage to get better acts. People come for the acts and not the ambiance, and thus emo's can ignore the attendees needs up to the point where it drives them away. These other places however, unable to compete with emo's in bringing in as many big drawing acts, have to compete for customers by making their places nicer for the customer.

As to why everyone loves it, if you think of what leaves a lasting impression, which is probably the acts, people will remember the awesome shows and forget the mean bartenders and the expensive drinks and the shitty decor, and have rosey view of the place.

I could be way off base, but that makes some sense, right?

somebody's thinking like a master of business administration.

i think it's a little bit what you said and a little bit what anne said that makes the place "legendary".

however, nicely enough, a few of the emo's bookers (bookies?) have broken off and are now booking better shows at the mohawk and club deville. so emo's reign of terror might be coming to an end.
