I don't think anyone knew she was sick. First I heard of anything was a post from the end of March, saying that the second block of filming on series 5 had been postponed because she was ill.

The half of the season that they'd filmed includes what was meant to be the last two episodes for the run. So there'll be an ending of sorts...
