I see you are already spelling the homeland as one word, with a single H. well done!

but what's this "N'hamp" nonsense?
are the Noho people and the Hamp people finally merging into one coherent sociolinguistic entity with a single, unified nickname for the place they live?

n.hamp, in my experience in the wilds of new england, means new hampshire. have things changed so much, so fast?

(next, you'll have to learn how to pronounce "Amherst" properly.
**hint: in the following two sentences, the words are not homophones of one another.**
"I'm gonna go to amherst to get a tattoo at holeshot and then hang out in the anarchist bookstore"
"i go to amherst college and i wear boat shoes with pleated khaki like it's normal.")

ps, i'm very excited that you're finally gonna settle in "n'hamp" for a bit. will all your shifting be done by, say, the weekend of the 17th? because my brother's got a long weekend and i think we're traveling back to the land of the connecticut river.

woah i just saw this. let's see. the town's called ammerst, without the h, but the college has the h, right?

also you entertain me to no end.

also YES i will be up there by that weekend zomg let's ride bikes.

i can't bring myself to "__ho" any placename; n'hamp, i figure, is different from n-hamp (aka hampshiro nuevo). because the apostrophe indicates letters removed, but one word... or so i figure...

sorry, you're gonna just hafta go with "hamp" then.

and in its defense, noho's been noho for my entire life, or as much of it as i rememder, unlike, say, "g-ho" (which is apparently the new gentriffic name for the part of philly south of south street between broad and the schuylkill, surrounding the Graduate Hospital. also South of South, or "soso")

and also in its defense, your ass just moved there, don't be getting all high and mighty and makin' up new nicknames like a first-year smithie.

although you pass your amherst vocab/pronunciation. well done.

it's acceptable for townies to call the college with a silent H too, but i think the people who go there are too busy playing polo to drop their H's.

i'll chat with joe, see what our schedule's gonna look like. let's ride the fuck to pelham!
(no h in that neither)

yeah! let's ride the fuck to pelham! where's that?

I guess my resistance to __ho comes from my stodgy NYC'er hate of NYTimes Real Estate Section making things into SoBro, AlmoHa...

and northampton is so long to type!

who are the noho people and who are the hamp people? do i have to align myself with one of them? which is the right side? i want to be on the right side. who's cooler? no wait. who's less cool? no wait. who's more fun?
