What's funny is that, in the book, Marianne just gets like a cold and a sore throat or something. Austen actually makes fun of another character for being all dramatic about it. Marianne's illness is just an excuse for Elinor to have to hang around the house awhile and find out the Willoughby is EVIL and that Col. Brandon is king of everyone. Also for Elinor and Marianne to have a fight.
