I think I've changed quite a lot in the past year. In fact, I know I have. I'm not entirely sure in what ways, but I think most, if not all of them are good. A lot of it is derived from my experiences at work, but much is also just from the changing set of friends that I've seen come around

So it sounds like a permanent easement would be needed for that situation. I'll talk to the guy I'm getting an estimate from and see if he knows anything about this business. Anything else you could suggest is definitely welcome--thanks again.

One way to interpret the house set-back is that there needs to be 10 feet between each structure for maintenance and emergency reasons... usually that just breaks down to 5 feet from each property line.
As Deck- happy as Seattle is, I'm sure there is plenty of precedent.
Some times Decks are exempt from set backs, depending on height, structure, type and style. It also depends on what the easement is. In some cases a deck could be considered landscaping.
