So after reading Gwen's posting this morning, I feel compelled to spill my guts ( Read more... )

Making nice stuff for yourself does do something for us. It provides an example of what we need to be striving toward. It gives you a chance to do research and perfect techniques that you will later pass on to others. It provides you with concrete examples to show how things are done. I say go for it.

I agree with Lorenzo. I understand what you mean by having to "make do" with something rushed that you don't feel satisfied with. It doesn't just happen with sewing. But the rest of us look at what you can do in a short period of time and wish we could do something of that calibre so quickly.

You are already one of those I can look to and say "I want to be like that." Taking the time to do something nice for you and your family reminds us that sometimes you just have to take care of yourself. And by doing that you are still enriching the Kingdom, just in a different way.

Nope, I'm right there with you - you need a break. As do I, when this reign is over.

I would take over the Gulf Wars A&S, but I think it should be a Laurel.

I know you feel like I do too, and long for a moment when you're at events because hey - you decided to not because there's no way you can miss one. (Yeah, I know you'll keep the heavy activity level, as will I, because that' how we play this game, to get the most out of it, but it's still different when you can say "I'm not going to X" this weekend and not worry that the world will fall apart if you don't).

For the record, I know there is no way I can possibly thank you for all you've done for us and the retinue. I will try very hard to do it right, however.

Well, and part of the reason I feel bad about bitching is that I know how much most of the people I do stuff for appreciate it. I would take a (costume) bullet for you because I know how much you appreciate it.

Okay, after I get G & F in their stuff, I think you and I need to get sloppy drunk! Run around in our chemises!

"I would take over the Gulf Wars A&S, but I think it should be a Laurel. "

*jumps up and down, waving my hand*

I know neither of us are Laurels, and I don't even bloody LIVE in Meridies any longer, but would two lowly apprentices make up one Laurel? Cause I would volunteer to co-run this with you.

Or, any suggestions for a Laurel we could shanghai into being a figurehead?

Well, the GA person this time isn't a Laurel. The thinking of it being a Laurel is that you sometimes have to boos other Laurels around :) Not that it requires one to be a Peer to do that. Basically, it would be up to Maysun to approve whoever, as I fall under her with this. The big thing is committing to being at Gulf Wars, getting a bunch of PR out in Jan and Feb, and convincing folks to donate prizes.

You can also look at it that by stepping back, you might give someone else a chance to step forward. I think people turn to you because they know you're good and you will get it done. But there might be others out there, who aren't as well known, who would be interested in and able to do the job, too.

Agreed. You are RELIABLE, trustworthy, and make great stuff. Do you have any idea how rare and wonderful a combination that is?

You know, I absolutely agree with this. But, that gets back to the discussion that has been going around that there aren't a lot of people stepping forward, even when we beg for them to. (Okay, Madhavi just proved the opposite of that.) Of course, I should have enough humility to understand that I am not the ONLY person who can get things done (I've been reading Camelot for this summer, and I realize I may have a few of Lancelot's weaknesses-but I can't heal the dying.)

Balance, it's all about balance. If you drive yourself into the ground working on other stuff and neglect you and yours, it will eventually quit being fun.
