Okay, I really am enjoying my rapier adventures. I wasn't sure about it at first. I figured I would sort of suffer through it- not hating it but not loving it ( Read more... )

WAY COOL!!! I am so bringing my schlager for you at Convivialis. (very jealous, and also have the same fears of being slow when I finally get to try)

I can just see your happy dance. Hee.

Isn't that first kill amazing? Congrats on seeing the opportunity and taking it.

I miss being able to fight. Not all the time, like when it's humid, 90dF outside, and just the idea of putting my armor on drains me. :-) But the physical-ness of it, the training, the ability to get to the point where it is muscle memory and instinct takes over. I can still do the footwork and watch with knowledge, but not being to hold a sword completely takes fighting out of the picture.

You know, I have never had a problem with Rapier in the context of the SCA. It is that I have had some significant problems with the attitudes with many rapier fighters.

But then again, I have issues with the attitudes of many heavy weapon fighters.

I have determined I'm going to just annoy the ones with attitude issues, much as Seth ignores the heavy guys with attitude issues.

I'm having fun bouncing around with a pointy thing.

(mental images of Gwen bouncing on a bed with a sword...lethal to both gloominess and possible bystanders)

Yes, the thrill of the kill is awesome :-) I remember my first battle at a Border Raids and coming back to camp with this huge grin on my face I just couldn't wipe off. And yes, heavies do sometimes laugh at each other during practice (not so much during tournament).

I've been intrigued by rapier, but I loved wars so much more than tournaments when I fought heavy -- and the only rapier melees I've seen at Gulf Wars just look silly. They don't look like fun ...
