Tavern Yard. Apparently, the pictures of the Goth party are undermining the SCA by making us look like fantasy LARPers.
People have seen the pictures not knowing what they are from and getting upset. I love one quote about how none of us should teach classes, because obviously we don't know anything about the middle ages. We're just young, clueless people out to party.
Let me tell you that Griffin did us all proud on the seneschal's list. He more or less told them that some of our best teachers were at that party as well as some of our finest craftsman. I've been sitting on my hands so I don't type something I might regret.....like "get a freaking life man...it was a party!!" Some people really need to lighten up!
Yeah, I probably shouldn't have posted anything, but I was hoping that if I explained the idea of mixing medieval and goth people would get it. I'm about 5 seconds from begging David to get rid of the social pictures link.
I'd be less irritated if the critism was coming from people who have awesome kits. Well, some of them dress pretty well, but I don't know a lot of them. And hey, I travel a lot, so if you aren't on my costume radar . . . (Wow, I'm vain today)
Did anyone else about snort a coke with Isabel de Foix (sp) remark about drinking Coke at events. I would have kissed her if I could.
Actually, I thought your post was very well written without sounding offended. I think on some level that taking the picture link off would be stooping to their level...it's what they want (ok, in my opinion). At this point (as Corbin is telling me all day today), it's just better not to get bent out of shape about it. It was a party and even those of us who didn't drink had a great time. Seeing the pictures reminds me of all the silliness that happened that night. It was a lot of fun and I think you hit the nail on the head with your goth comments. The theme was taken to a bigger extreme than the 70s party the previous year.
Yes, I was laughing at Isabelle de Foix's comment. It's actually the first time in a long time that she's posted something other than a restated question.
